Ive been following this thread on the Rise of Flight forum http://riseofflight.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=21956
Ive used this EMB mod with FSX and liked it a lot. In other games, it hit or miss. Ive been happy with ROF the way it is, and didn't think I would try this, but I broke down and tried it anyway. It de-saturates ROF a little, and also sharpens it a little but since everyone has different taste, its not for everyone. So far, I like it, but Im still going to tinker with it a little more until its what I want. You can always add the saturation back in via editing the startup.cfg.

Here are a few quick shots with it enabled.

It looks good! Can you also force FXAA anti aliasing with it? Do you need to use the "mods on" mode with it? If not I'll definitely try it!

No need to use mods on, It operates outside of ROF.

What?? Nooooooo! What happened to Scoobes beautiful full range color shots! JK thumbsup Personally I didnt think your shots needed any additional sharpness, to me it just looks to washed out IMO.

For taking screen shots, I would agree, it looks washed out, but when you see it running, it looks a lot better. For some reasons, it doesnt look as good in screenshots as it does live. Good thing is, it can be deactivated on the fly with the key next to the right Alt (dont know what its called) and F12.

Wow. I'm a bit shortsighted and that is pretty much how the world looks to me. I'll give this a shot smile

Hmmm, I like the texture sharpness but I'm not into the desaturation, I'd like the grass to be more green.

I'm not keen on the mystical glow this mod seems to add, looks like there's vaseline smeared over the monitor smile The overall look reminds me of Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, GRAW, a few years ago.

Those shots are beautiful. Far from being washed out I think the first two are about the most realistic screenshots I've seen from a flight sim. I'll have to try this mod.

OK, Ive tweaked it a little more. Added some saturation back in by adjusting the Startup.cfg but not too much. I dont like the grass to look to lime green, though some prefer that. What I like about this mod is how it lightens the sky a little bit, clods look better and dont jump out against the sky as much. Again, this is all a matter of personal preference and there is no right or wrong. Just putting it out there in case any one once to give it a try.
Also, turn "High Contrast" off and HDR and bloom off in the ROF config for best results.

Rob

Here are some more shots after a little tweaking. (changes are so little you can hardly tell)

Wishing I was in the La Cloche
Somebody mentioned that their sky looks like this at home in Spain. So it is all relative.

I'm originally from Canada then moved to Florida, and have traveled extensively in the southern USA. I immediately noticed the change in the quality of light brought on by sun position, humidity/haze, etc in the south. It was striking, even more so during the winter when the sun is so low on the horizon up north, but not so pronounced down south. Northern France is at the same latitude with where I lived in Canada.

This mod will probably do a good job at mimicking certain atmospheric conditions, while at other times the stock RoF will do better (likely dawn/dusk), so its a good thing we can turn it off while running the game.

Thanks for sharing, and to each their own.

I like it scoobe! i tried to get it to work but no joy so far.
I placed the download in the ROF folder but im not 100% sure it was the right one.

i placed the ENB.FS file in the bin_game/release folder(the one with the ROF.exe in it), correct?

The EMB mod is...well, moddable, so one can really create any type of coloring they want. IMO, it looks a lot better than the standard HDR/Bloom in-game. Scoob, what directory did you put the cfg and d3d file in?

The best part is you cann have the bloom effect with whatever FSAA level you want. biggrin

Im at work now,but Ill check as soon as I get home, early in the morning. I Think I remember having to manually place the .dll in the ROF\Data directory. If it works, you will see a green logo or text in the top right corner of the screen when the game first launches, just before the 777 logo plays.

Ill double check when I get home.

...\Rise of Flight\data\effect.txt
...\Rise of Flight\data\enbseries.ini

...\Rise of Flight\bin_game\release\d3d9.dll

It is different, certainly not saturated which is more realistic at times. From what I can tell there is a FPS impact on my mid-range to old system. So no joy here.
ALSO I cannot turn it off in game, and have read both threads mentioned. Quite a few can't figure out the keystroke either. Odd...

Thanks Bandy, that saves me the trouble. I did not notice a frame rate drop with it, However, Ive read about others mentioning that on the other thread.
If you like a more desaturated look, but dont want to use this mod, you can just adjust the saturation level in the Startup.cfg in the ROF data directory.

To turn off and on you need to hit the "Application Key" and F12 at the same time. The so called Application key is the key immediately to the left of the Right Control key.

You can change what key turns it off and on. It's a line in one of the files which can be opened in Notepad.

Ok, found the right download but when ever i put the d3d9.dll file inside the release folder, ROF will not load.

as soon as i take it out, all is fine again.
any ideas as i would like to try this out?

this is what im doing...

D3d9.dll - game_bin/release

affects.txt - Data
enbseries.ini - Data

AFAIK, you don't need to but any affects.txt file in. THe EMB mod only consists of the d3d file and cfg. txt.

I only put in the two files above (as I have in all my games that I use the mod with) and have never had an issue.

Scoobe, mind posting your ENB config?

Thanks!
