Hey cool tip about Pirates, going to buy that one.
Another one to check out, Modern conflict, a somewhat simple RTS of sorts, but I find it pretty fun.
And +1 for Galaxy on Fire, it's pretty good on the IPad

A non-game app that I use is called SpyGlass. Think of it like a compass on steroids. It combines a compass with GPS and will tell you where certain celestial bodies are, plus it has a great compass with elevation and will measure your speed. It's a great directional tool as it will overlay the compass on Google maps.

If you are a pilot flying in the US, Foreflight HD. Absolutely invaluable.

Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god...

I just found an iPad version of River Raid. That was my favourite Atari game ever. It's called Air Fox in the App Store. It is exactly how I remember it. May have had an iGasm. All I need now is Zaxxon.

Just found out that BlackBerry has it. Damn their oily hides.

Silent ops for iPhone and iPad out now... not really a fan of shooters on these devices just because of the finger movements... but do love the arcade games and startegy games...

anyway, trailer for Silent Ops:

FYI Apache Sim HD (iPad) is on sale right now for $0.99 and I just picked it up.
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/apache-sim-hd/id448786180?mt=8&ign-mpt=uo%3D4

I was holding off on it until I saw reviews, but at $1 it's a definite deal.

I found a review here:

PS. Really loving Pirates BTW (first played this game on C-64 and one of my faves)

Well I spent the Ipad money on a Warthog HOTAS instead but I do have many cool iPhone games and useful apps.

Games:

Real Racing 2 (Damn good racing game)
X-Men Arcade (A port of the old cabinet game with local multiplayer)
Angry Birds (as has been said who doesn't have it?)
NBA Jam (Remake of the original arcade beast with local multiplayer)
AC-130 (I think I got this for free but simple gunnery goodness)
Unpleasant Horse (Another free game I nabbed, basically an evil horse that kills pretty ponies and birds to stay aloft)
Marble Ultra (This is like those old wooden labyrinth games but with more obstacles and solid tilt controls)
Star Wars Falcon Gunner (Not much too it just gunnery in the falcon through different worlds and with upgrades, does have augmented reality mode tho)
Star Wars Trench Run (Again not much to it, a handful of different levels from escaping the Death Star to attacking it, has a cool option to play online using phone as a wireless controller with an in app purchase)
H-Elite (Cool helo game see the helo forums for more info)
Apache 3d Sim (Cool Apache sim that keeps getting updates)
Supersonic HD (A tunnel racing game sort of like S.T.U.N. Runner but now weapons just pure racing)

Apps:

Netflix (Nuff said)
Survival Guide (A version of the Army Field manual nice to have camping so long as your battery don't run out lol)
Camera+ (A great camera app that's leaps and bounds better than the stock apple one)
iWarthog (Virtual kneeboard and reference guide, must have IMO)
Pocket Guitar (Alright this is kinda gimmicky but cool at the same time basically a touch screen guitar that works and has effects)
DigiDrummer (A cool drum machine app with many different beats and the ability to record)
Splashtop (A remote PC app for connecting to the well uh PC very neat and powerful still have a lot of exploring on this one)
NASA (THE SPACE app to have)
Kindle (Never carry books again your entire library can be on the phone granted amazon has the book in the store)
Cyclemeter (A bike computer app tracks routes, mileage, speed, time and other useful things using GPS. The speedometer is a little flaky though)
