Now I don't pretend that the iPhone and/or iPad is the perfect gaming platform, I don't pretend that they will replace my PC for gaming, nor even console games for that matter... but it is a great platform for good, sometimes great time waster games... graphics and sounds are already top notch for the respected devices, but the controls seem to be the biggest weakness... A few months ago I posted screens of some games, they were racing games etc etc... the problem again with racing games is the controls and feedback... so tho they are still good time wasters like NFS Shift, Hot Pursuit, and Real Racing... there sub-par games...

But where the iPad (and the iphone if you like the small screen... I don't and my hands are to big for the iPhone) shine is board games and casual games... sure there are some "simulation" games that are damn good for what they are and do... IE: I love both Apache and H-ELITE, both great helicopter sims on the iPhone, (but to small for me to control...wish they both would come to the iPad in HD glory. lol) But those 2 games are prime examples on what can be done on a iPhone...

But for the iPad (and iPhone) a new release today blows mobile game hatred out the window... Sid Meier's PIRATES (yes the old classic) was released today on iPad (iPad2 users get a few more features and better graphics/sound), and it's getting great reviews... and I'm playing it right now and fantastic re-creation of the classic. Not to long ago Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution was also released, great reviews... game isn't based on the PC classic thou, but the console game.

and then you also have the true classics like Monopoly, Risk, and Battleship... which are all excellent games on the iPad... with great graphics, sounds, animations, and classic game play.

Then you have the more hardcore... a couple of releases of intrest... BFBC2 is alot of fun, thou the controls for shooters are hard for me... it's all finger movement and tapping, also the Rainbow Six game came out on iPad, and a new game called 9mm which is a pretty cool game alot like Grand Theft Audio... but you can play as the cops or bad guys...

All these games have MP, and they work pretty well... some have over the network MP but not many... this is a bad idea because slow, lag, and costly in usage... but all have MP via wireless network connection... so you can play at a local McD, star-bucks, or your home... the best games are the ones with 2 to 4 players... IE: Battleship...etc etc... the more problematic ones are like 9mm with 16 player (I think, might be 12) force on force...alot of warping...

So thats my iPhone/iPad report for July 2011... any suggestions or recommendations on your part?

BTW... if you use GameCenter (the steam of iPad/iPhone gamers) be sure to add me for a couple of test/play sessions... MAGNUM50

ALSO... and thanks to Krudger for this... a great app called SPLASHTOP that lets you connect from your iPhone or iPad to your home PC via password... and then you can view and run anything, you see your desktop on your iPad... documents, pdf's, even basic programs... IE: you can play PANZER CORPS on your iPad with this tool... all the sound is disabled on the PC (but if looking at the PC you can see someone using it... like remote desktop help... and it plays great... (game can't be screen size, has to be window mode...1024x768 I think).

some screens:

SO... why not just use a laptop... well laptops are better, more powerful, and they make some great ones for gaming. (I have an Alienware M14X) but iPads/iPhones are instant on, instant off... no boot up required... in and out of whatever apps you want. wink

There's an air hockey game for the iphone which is even better on the ipad now that I've got an ipad.

Really, I use mine more as a large magazine I suppose than anything, but the board game aspect is one I might get into.

Love my iPad. Very satisfied with it. Even do SimHQ on it from time to time and the experience is good.

I also am very satisfied with my iPad which I bought not long after they first came out. I will have to look into getting Pirates (I really enjoyed it on the PC).

For games, I enjoy
Reckless Racing (I see you have that one Magnum smile )..
Trenches
Tower Madness
Real Racing (I need to get Real Racing 2 at some point)
World of Goo
Osmos HD (very relaxing physics game)
Angry Birds (who doesn't have that one?)
Flight Control HD
Reno Air Races isn't bad
and then there is F-Sim (Shuttle Landing sim which is very good) and X-Plane.

I also use the iPad with DCS A10C using the iControl app which adds a lot to the experience IMHO.

Now I can`t wait for my Ipad2 32gb 3G to get here. Next week the way it looks now. Bought the Otterbox for Ipad2 also a Apple
wireless bluetooth keyboard and docking station. Just need the Ipad2 and time to sync up the apps I have already bought for it.

I forgot, Galaxy on Fire was a game that got *better* on my iPad. I liked it a lot on my iPhone but when I got it on my iPad I was very surprised at how much cooler it got. That is a game worth getting for sure.

I'd like to see command & conquer 1 and red alert for the Ipad.
