I was just playing V8Factor Unleased with a friend and it was really good. The cars looked really nice and handled pretty good as well. We will be trying some dirt track mods too someday.

Targa Florio, but having a hard time of it... HistoricX Cars F1-1971
the new Mercedes SSK is beautiful, but needs at least a Bentley to race against
about to try the F1-1979 mod.
Where do people get rFactor mods from now? I used to use rfactorcentral, but they have gone subscription...
Cheers Keith

It's still the same, you just have to be logged in, as always.

It now says I have used my 3 downloads and have to pay $5 a month whenever I try to download. OTOH most mods have user posted links in the comments.
(Apologies for hijacking the thread BTW)

I got the impression rFactor central limited non-subscription users to three downloads per day. Having only just got rFactor that that was never gonna be enough for me so I stumped up the cash, it was only £15 for the year.
Will have to check out the recommendations from the lists above. For the time being I've been mostly using Targa Florio (which is insanely awesome), a Nordschleife mod, Subaru WRC with a whole load of Impreza's, and the Ferrari GTO from the Legends mod.
The GTO on Targa Florio using the G25's stick shift and manual clutch is so much fun.

Rfactorcentral might make you pay for downloads THEY host, but you can always find the mods linked free as long as you're logged in.
It's just that most of them are on sites like megaupload, rapidshare, etc. So they aren't the fastest/best download methods.
As for me - I've reinstalled VHR and I'm tinkering with that while SCES is on a break. Race2Play seems to host a number of open races with that (and other mods/games) so I'm thinking about trying to find some time to run one or two of those. If not, public racing it is.

Well, i'm downloading for rfactorcentral too. i guess if something it isn't there it doesn't exists, right? because i've searched like the whole internet for a Ferrari 348 or F355 Challenge mod without success. Now, what's you preferred method for managing mods: separate installs, or keeping everything on a big installation and using a mod manager? i'm using the first option even when sometimes it means having duplicated racetracks for each one of them. The other thing i would like to know is if is out there some external program to browse the multiplayer servers better than the in-game browser, because that's the bigger cluster-you-know-what i've ever seen.

For tracks just edit the following line in the rfactor\config.ini
TracksDir=GAMEDATA\LOCATIONS\
Make it something like E:\GAMES\RFTRACKS\
And put all your tracks in there.
For a server browser, you can use rFactor Server Spy.

If anyone finds a good modern and complete F1 mod, let me know.
I tried FSOne's 2009 season V2 with new shaders and while the damn thing's gorgeous, the aero mods throughout the season they've made won't show up at some tracks. I think it's a package error within the model itself, because some of them show and some don't. I found a pretty good 2009 trackpack and thought I'd have something to keep me occupied for a while, but noooooooo. Yeah, I know I could select each individual model for each track, but I'm lazy and the capability's there to change automatically while running a Race Season, it should work.
Other than my quest for modern F1, whatever's the flavor of the month/quarter around here when I'm able to run.

That is a good one, Chunx....grabbed it in preparation for the P&G mod for GTR2, since it had the Ford Capri.

It's one of the best mods I've ever tried for rFactor. I'm no fan of touring cars really, but this one is an exception

Now, what's you preferred method for managing mods: separate installs, or keeping everything on a big installation and using a mod manager? I use JSGME religiously for rFactor - any modified file other than a setup gets installed via this program. This means I can go back to a clean rFactor install in literally less than a minute if I'm having trouble with something. I only keep the tracks, cars, and utilities that I am currently using installed, so I never have more than two or three tracks and cars active. Ahmad's solution for duplicate tracks is a good one, too, if you prefer that method. I really recommend JSGME, though.

Me I'm currently trying out a few different ones...
F5000 71 (A whole hell of a lot of fun) Vintage formula Vee HQ racing Bathurst Legends (love it) Beetle Mercedes SSK 1928 V8 Factor 2010 American Muscle Toyota Celica 4WD by Ferlob Super Touring Cars 1998 F2 1976
I'm trying out most of these around Targa Florio
Of course I'm also using ILMS v2.79 and F1 1985 a lot in practice for the up coming races

I haven't seen any mention of the Porsche Carrera Cup (PCC) mods. These are one of my favorite tin top mods...I love racing Porsches!
