Why do I have to pay $1.00 just so I can get the latest patches for my retail version of CMSF? I see no good reason for it. Or does the pay-for patch add their dreaded DRM to my non DRM version? Either way they have annoyed me to the point I will not buy Normandy no matter how good it is.

Did you read the arrogant BS they posted about why they use their specific DRM? I don't support companies that talk down to the customer so you are damn right that I would never have bought it.

then why even post here...we've heard it all before... then don't buy, but if you don't buy then no need to even come into a thread titled on the refused game, your missing out on some great gaming, and their DRM ain't that bad... but I agree, their PR guy needs to go to PR school or something, he does come across in a bad manner sometimes. wink But I'm not letting one mans lack of communications skills interfere with great gaming.

I agree, and appreciate good feedback and comments... really i do... but I hate it when people join SimHQ just to voice their "I hate this game" crap... I mean, i could understand it if this was a new game... but it's a year or two old... I would of thought all the haters would of moved on already. wink

I actually don't mind the $1 cost if it helps the company keep supporting a great game with so many patches, Not a big price to pay and seems much better than some other companies like Ubisoft (Silent Hunter 5) and CodeMasters (F1 2010) that release buggy games and don't even bother to support or patch them appropriately.

What is exactly "arrogant" about their form of DRM protection? This is what was posted not long ago on their forums:

http://www.battlefront.com/community/showpost.php?p=1246222&postcount=24

Quote:
Now, is any information being beamed to the mother ship? Is a tinfoil hat needed? No and no, unless you really want to look rather silly smile Quick double check... the DRM works offline and doesn't require an Internet connection. Now, if the DRM just assumed you were OK if it couldn't contact the mother ship, then that would be a pretty easy way to get around the DRM, wouldn't it? So OBVIOUSLY the DRM is self contained and it checks internal to your computer and doesn't go external unless you need to activate.

Lastly, where the heck is this DRM anyway? Is it some virus secretly installed on your computer by our installer? No. It is inside the CM:BN EXE. So unless you think Combat Mission itself is a virus and intent on causing harm, then you're all set.

Remember, we aren't idiots. We know bad DRM drives away customers. So why on Earth would we spend so much time and money on a DRM that would piss off so many people that we'd go out of business simply because of boycotts by otherwise reasonable people? In the past 12 years have we struck anybody here as being particularly braindead and oblivious to our customers? I mean, we couldn't possibly have read every one of the several million posts on this Forum, but it's probably a safe bet we've at least read more than the ones in this particular thread.

I don't exactly see what is "arrogant" about that.

The tone of the post is what is arrogant and not the DRM itself. He is talking down to the customer like they are an annoyance and you just don't do that. That is the exact post I was referring to earlier. And their DRM does cost them plenty of lost sales already so he has his head in the sand if he thinks it doesn't.

I was thinking of pistols at noon but think instead I will just put you on my ignore list. There are other things I would rather do with my time than wasting it on an abusive forum user. I see in that thread about CMBN you are abusive to other users there too and like a haters gonna hate a dbag is gonna be a dbag.

Alright... back on topic of the patch and game... you can bring your DRM discussion into the DRM forum here at SimHQ. And if you don't like or play this 2 year old game... give or take... really no reason to be here NOW.

Never said I don't like or don't play it. I simply asked why they want $1.00 for 1.21 patch just so that I can get this latest patch, which is on topic. But I see now this forum is anti-consumer so will take it up elsewhere and not waste any more of my time here.

They are still supporting and putting out patches for a 2 year old game, and you are complaining about a $1 cost?

Compared to almost all of the game industry that kind of support/cost is terrific and even the DRM is also pretty industry standard for any titles with digital distribution in the last 5 years.

It's not anti-consumer to call you out on your unreasonable expectations, you sound like the people who spend most of their time hating Steam and discussing DRM instead of playing games, which is why that talk belongs in the DRM forum so most of us can avoid it.

Aforest comes in here, pisses and moans about $1.00, the cost of a bottle of soda pop. Then proceeds to badmouth Battlefront with unfounded and ignorant name calling with resepct to their DRM. Somebody calls him on it and he crys foul. SimHQ is a great place with an excellent staff and forum following. They are not anti-consumer, just anti-ignoramus.

Dude, you are just not smart enough to realize the $1.00 charge is for "other" reasons and not because they actually need it to provide support to a game that was very broken from the very start.

goodnight

It's pure speculation on your part to think that BF has lost "plenty" of sales. Based on current forum traffic for CMBN, my guess is that they are doing just fine.

Well, I am very interested in this game and all its expansion packs. But I haven't and will not buy it while they have this DRM. What a shame, enjoyed the demo but just can tolerate such restrictive sytems.

Will stick with Matrix Games for my wargaming needs, just a pity they don't have a competing product.

There is absolutely no problem with their choice of DRM. A restrictive system? bs_sign >enigma chuckles<...it really is your loss.

agreed... ya, connect once and enter a code... hard.

But my Q. why revive a thread from July about a patch for the game... now everyone will think a new patch is out, lol.

What! A new patch is out ?!?!

J/K

burger

P.S. Anyone that had problems with this sort of DRM probably hasn't played any games made in the last 2-3 years, entering a key for online license validation is common for 90% of the games I've bought the last few years outside of GOG.

CMSF's and CMBN's DRM is about as benign as it can get these days. As enigma said, it's your loss.
