It's good enough, considering where the show leaves you at the end of S2 when it was cancelled. Some series I say "don't bother, it's too disappointing it won't be finished", but this isn't one of them.

If you get to the middle of the first season and are still watching, it will only get better. If you can't stand to watch that long, you probably wouldn't care that much for the later eps anyway.

yeah,

I think you still remember our BSG disaster. But I bet it was shown on pay-TV earlier.

Yes, that is a common refrain with SF TV.

It requires a lot of disciplined internet browsing for fear of accidentally stumbling across a spoiler.

Been there, done that.

That's also dependent on how much internet browsing you do of sites that might have such spoilers. It's almost never happened to me and I've not really had to work to prevent it.

The new series wasn't as interesting to me because they based it on the original, and so there were plot elements I already knew going into this one that were kind of a surprise in the original, so it just took some of the mystery out of it.

It was pretty well scripted and acted though, with good sfx too.

Seems like they didn't do as good of a job as what Moore and Eick did with BSG where the miniseries had the same basic premise as the original show but then they took it into new territory.

Yeah, they just rehashed the original, rather than "re-imagined" it. It was the same basic setup with the same aliens and everything, just updated with more current mind-sets, action, effects, etc.

I got bored with it pretty quickly. I think I watched the first 4 episodes or so.

Technically its not re-hashed, since the main antagonist is not Dianna, but Anna, Dianna's daughter..

No, the shows aren't exactly the same, but very similar. My impression was that they were able to get Jane Badler to appear on the show so they gave her the role of Anna's mother and her character the name Dianna as an homage to the original show. I didn't think there was any connection between the events and characters in the original show to those in the new one. I didn't watch it a lot, so I may have missed it if there was.

I can't remember, did Diana die or survive through the original V miniseries and subsequent tv show?

I can't remember for sure either, but somehow I thought she got away on a spaceship at the end.

Original series had a good storyline and very interesting characters, but looks a bit dated and 1980s cheesy by now. You can probably get it for around 20 Euro on DVD by now, and I think that's a reasonable price. The new series started not that bad actually IMHO - but it's cancelled so we'll never know how it went.

Fully agree with Legend's assessment. The story and themes of the original "V" are timeless and compelling but most of the acting and the look of the show is badly outdated and cheesy.

Update:

So far, not bad. The cool thing, as it obviously is broadcasted in the summer hole, they show 3 episodes on one evening every week.

Just watched the last episodes of season I. Not bad at all. One of the better SF series IMO. Season II will be aired this autumn.

Frankly I think the lack of ending makes watching the series...pointless. It's sort of like if LOTR had been just Fellowship and the rest of the films hadn't been made. Sure, you can enjoy what you've seen, but at the end you're left with...that's all?
