Are there plans afoot to implement aces in future editions of campaign mode? Aces that rack up kills and get challenged by other Aces and die and get replaced by new (historical) Aces? RoF is a great WW1 game, but the Aces were quite an important part of the air war - there's quite a big hole in RoF without the chance to run across Richtofen and his Flying Circus for example. smile

Guys, I think you are confusing Career mode beta, with RoF Campaign.
In Patrick's RoF Campaign there are active aces!
In my latest Jasta 11 Campaign I sent down in flames Albert Ball and read the news in the paper.
The Red Baron also was lost early, during Bloody April, operations, they both had 31 victories till the time of their deaths in my Campaign's parallel reality...

Fantastic news! So can you challenge them/be challenged by them or screw them over by bringing some mates with you (or vice versa)?

I did think the two campaigns were one and the same - so this one with the aces isn't automatically downloaded into the game on updating and needs to be d/l separately then. smile Many thanks for clearing that up - can't wait until tomorrow when I'll be buying a hangar load of planes. biggrin

I got this from the official RoF site:

Quote:
# Virtual "Newspaper", depicting timely events at the front, new inventions in science and technology, and list of important aces published on a regular basis.
# All virtual A.I. squadron mates have their own names, grow in rank and abilities, go the hospital if needed and receive awards for their actions.
# Ability to meet historic allied or enemy aces in combat situations. If you kill a famous enemy ace he will not re-appear and his kill total will stop in the press.

Which campaign does this concern - the official RoF one, or Patrick's one? smile

Probably the official one...
But have in mind that the Official Career mode is still in beta status and many of it's features are not yet in use...
The above features you mentioned, are all present in Patrick's Campaign. yep

Do you have to exit RoF to generate each new mission? And do we have an idea as to when the official RoF campaign will be out of beta?

Yes, and no.

I actually shut down Pat's campaign program while flying. I found on my marginal system that it may make the difference between flying at 1/2 speed and regular speed.

So far, my experience with the two campaigns has been interesting. I have to say that in many ways Pat's mission generator creates a more realistically active environment for both hostile and friendly flights. I also like being able to tweak settings to suit my system.

On the other hand, the beta does have some very lovely features, and seems to generate better random weather which is a very important element to keeping the missions interesting. I have not gotten around to flying 2-seater campaigns yet.

I'd love an option to name the pilots in my squadron - I want to bring Hornet Squadron back in time. Imagine going on missions with Moggy, Pip, Sticky et al? It would be fantastic - and since (if you've watched Piece of Cake) you'd be attached to the characters, if/when they die, it will be even more poignant. Come on, 777 make it happen.

Don't make me get my Jeremy Clarkson 'how hard can it be' picture out again. biggrin
