July 2nd saw my first visit to the Festival of Speed, an annual event held since 1993 in the grounds of the the Earl of March's estate. The event features cars of all types from all eras; a focus this year was 100 years of the Indianapolis 500, with a grand selection of Indycars old and new.
I wanted to enjoy the day, but grabbed an opportunity to catch some of the cars when I was in a decent enough spot, I hope you like the results.

In 1990, during friday morning practice for the Spanish Grand Prix, Martin Donnelly exited the track at a fast right-hander. His car struck the barrier and disintegrated, leaving him lying on the track, his seat still attached. He made a very good recovery, but never raced in F1 again. There is some video discussing the incident
here. Over 20 years later, Classic Team Lotus restored to race condition a 102 chassis with a genuine Chrysler-Lamborghini 3.5 litre V12, and so, at Goodwood, Donnelly was reunited with his car. It was great to see.

Benetton-Ford B193, powered by a 3.5 litre V8. As used by Michael Schumacher and Riccardo Patrese in 1993:

Williams-Renault FW15C, powered by a 3.5 litre V10, as used by Damon Hill and Alain Prost in 1993. This remains the most sophisticated F1 car made; it featured traction control, computer-controlled & hydraulically actuated active suspension, ABS, semi-automatic gearbox with full auto mode. Most of this tech was banned at the end of '93, rendering it a very interesting car, 18 years later.

A great day out, and well worth attending. Truly beautiful location, too.
