I've been a beta tester since the beginning... got permission, now, to share news and screens of the upcoming game. It's a pretty damn good game if you like the type... not overly complicated or detailed, but enough to make it a good tactical game. IMO. (It's more about the battle's then the building and overly controlling everything.)
Quote:
Panzer Corps Wehrmacht is a brand new turn-based strategy game that reinvents a classic genre. Produced and developed by a team of experts and brought to perfection by a community of hundreds of fans, the game has evolved over 2 years to become what can be defined as a modern classic! Set in World War II, Panzer Corps Wehrmacht puts the player in charge of Axis armies, taking their core force with them through the entire war. The use of combined-arms tactics requires each general to make use of the strengths and exploit the weaknesses of their opponents. Its multiplayer mode, an improved version of Slitherine’s award winning PBEM++ system, allows players to easily find opponents anywhere in the world enjoy playing them with none of the hassle. Panzer Corps Wehrmacht is designed to replicate the feeling of a classic war game, but brings it up to 21st century standards and to a whole new generation of gamers.
Some screens from one of the early campaigns... The invasion of Poland.

Looks interesting. But to be honest, I'm personal no huge fan of turn-based games on the PC. I have done turn-based boardgames though back in the 80's like Squad Leader. Sitting face to face with a friend, big manual and a few beers. Miss those times.

Can you play as the allies?

Magnum, nice work. The screenies remind me a bit of the old Panzer General series. Is there any resemblance in playing it -understandably advanced over PG considering how much time has flown by, if you were familiar with PG?
well it does seem that the graphics and terrain get better... but not as detailed or in-dept as some of those old classics.
and in SP, only th Axis... I believe, (but don't know for sure, never played MP) that MP of course is two sides...axis and allies.
and I don't expect most to like these types of games... their not my favorite either... but i still follow and try most of them. lol

Thanks - yes, it's good to keep up with what is out there in the general area of mil type releases. You never know when a new classic might come along. And sometimes you have a craving for...potato chips!
BTW while reminiscing about Panzer General and googling whether my old copy will run in Windows 7, I found the following free version of Panzer General Forever which is available to play for free and according to some of the posts in that forum the author of PGF may be one of the authors of this upcoming game Panzer Corps.
PGF looks well worth a try to play (includes Allied General and Kaiser General), and from my quick testing it looks like I will be able to play this via my iPad and Splashtop remote desktop, so should be a fun diversion while watching TV.
Also seeing that one of the authors of this Panzer Corps made such a nice free game for all the fans of the original PG definitely encourages me to keep an eye on Panzer Corps and likely pick it up when it comes out.

Thanks forgot about GOG, good source of old classics so I don't have to dig out my old CDs and try to get things to work in Win7, revisiting some of those great old games with light graphics that are playable remotely from iPad Splashtop.
Wow thanks the manual looks great and includes an editor and mod support... definitely interested in this Panzer General on steriods, sounds like it will be out on Mon Jul 11 it seems, so in a couple of more days.

Thanks Magnum. I never thought to look there for the Panzer General series.
Pops keeps wearing out DVD/CD players with Panzer General 3D Assault and Panzer General Scorched Earth. I wish they had Panzer General Scorched Earth too but this a a great start. I may even get him PG II since both of them cost less than a new DVD drive.
Panzer General 2 was my first purchase when I switched from Mac to PC. Allied General was about my 3rd purchase when I got my first home computer(mac) in 95. Fond memories of the General series and I will be keeping my eye on this one.

kludger, if you do get it next week, when you have a chance let us know what you think.
Yeah will definitely pass on impressions once I pick this up Monday.
BTW, I am not a hardcore war gamer, I've always wanted to be but my love of race sims and FPS games always seems to pull my attention away before I get too deep, but Panzer General, Close Combat and TotalWar have always managed to retain my interest and so this is right up my alley.
Maybe this will also be a good gateway game to get me in the mood to tackle more hardcore wargames like TOW2 which I recently picked up on steam sale and CMBN for which I picked up the demo but can't seem to focus enough to figure it out.

Thanks for the heads-up Magnum!
Same , its a good lite wargame. Not indepth like hearts of iron and the like but still enjoyable enough that i can get edgy when knowing i am running out turns in certain scenarios.
I still have an Ardennes scenario playing out atm, i used the editor though to give the scenario 100 moves and changed some of the units and added others, the Allies had too little airpower and not enough infantry originally.Bastogne has finally fallen and Peiper is nearly over the Meuse
pg4ever and Allied Gen work on win7,socan not get sound to work though, not that that is a big minus really.Hopefully this 'remake' will finally surpass the original series.
Can you stack units in this game Magnum?

My character somehow got all twisted up. I was playing the mission where you have to infiltrate the Golden Glow Estate and do multiple things. Some nice screenies in this thread. Really looking forward to this one. Some good news is that it looks like its going to support modding! Mods made PG2 awesome and gave it almost unlimited re-playability with all the work done by modders. They are talking about an Afrika Corps North Africa campaign available next.

If anyone is interested there is an awesome version of PG2 available for download. I have my original PG2 disc but could not get it to work with Vista 64 bit. I downloaded an older version of this package a year ago or so and works flawlessly. You don't have to own PG2. (this is not Open General)

It is easy and quick. Just double click on the exe file and choose a drive and folder where you want to have the game installed. The default folder is C:\panzer2ake but you can change/rename the folder to suits you.
If you are using Windows Vista or newer, please turn Windows Defender off before installing. If not, it may freeze your computer.

Waiting to buy it, slitherine.com seems to be buckling under the load of pent up PG demand.
Maybe try the Matrix Games site? Going to buy this after work today...
It looks like it is the main publisher site that was a bit slow, eventually it came through and I was able to order fine. It's downloading at my max 1500 KB/s now, so all is good.
Downloaded fine and I just got a chance to start it and do part of the tutorial.
Initial impressions are great, the game looks beautiful at 1920x1080 and the music and narration is great so far... as expected has the familiar PG feel combined with modern game feel.
As a bonus the semi-windowed 1024x768 support tested great playing from my iPad2 using Splashtop Remote, so I will be able to play this while sitting on the couch watching TV with family or in bed.
I will post more once I make progress on the campaigns.

What kind of DRM does it have? Do you have to be online?

I just had to put my purchase regcode on install, no post install DRM that I can see.
BTW I just saw confirmation from one of the Lordz studio devs on another forum (Wargamer):

Just a serial number no DRM, unlimited re-downloads for free.
There's an included scenario editor, but they also mention upcoming Allied, Afrika, Pacific campaigns, I'm going to be playing this for a long time :-)
Here's a good Panzer Corps Ardennes AAR to tide over those of us who have to wait until after work to play.
Picked this up today and I am liking it very much. Love the sharp graphics and it just feels like PG. Cant wait to see what the modders come up with for this one, looks promising.
