Shortly after being in 3D on the runway, REX should say in the comms bar on the top something like "REX is starting to load the weatherfiles" with some more status reports, if you chose to use real weather in the options. Shouldn`t last longer than a minute.

The ultimate check is, the clouds should look WAY better than the stock ones. Search for my screenshots in the Screenshot Gallery here. This is what REX clouds look like.

Off to bed now.

`night and have fun.

hm,

have REX you configured to download real weather data?

If so, with choosing the theme you only chose a specific set of textures REX uses. So, if at the place you are flying is nice sunny weather, you see none to few clouds. I`m no expert of the inner workings of the weather in FSX, but I guess, there are some "stages" from clear to heavy thunderstorms. REX downloads the weather conditions for the place you are flying at and loads the cloud textures, which match this "stage" of weather conditions.

So, even if you chose the theme "stormy weather", you won`t see storm clouds all the time with real weather enabled in REX. I haven`t tried, but I guess you have to set the weather fixed in FSX and disable the real weather in REX to have full control over weather in FSX.

When I don't care for REX weather/clouds, I boot up FSX through the FSX icon. When I want REX weather/clouds or a new REX theme, I boot up FSX by clicking first on the REX icon. ONce inside REX, I pick what I want -runways, water, clouds, etc., individually, that is create my own theme, or select a pre-packaged theme, which takes longer- and then select "Fly" from within REX. REX then starts FSX for me. Then I pick my airport to depart from and launch. REX loads everything I selected as I'm sitting on the runway. Just as Kilo described.

And because I also have ORBX for Australia, I can boot up FSX from the desktop by clicking on the FSX icon, then go into "weather" and select from several choices of ORBX weather. In other words, neither FSX nor REX weather, but ORBX weather.

Like Kilo, I've never used REX to do flight planning. Not yet.
