What is that tone (both continuous and intermittent) when you're performing a turning maneuver?

"Over-G" I think.

You are pulling too hard of a turn and going over the G-Limit of your plane at that particular moment (maxload/speed etc).

Angle-of-Attack tone.

AoA is too high - you are close to a stall. Steady is close to stall AoA - Beeping is about to stall/stalling

Mmm, this tone rather kicks in fast in my opinion. I'm turning with this tone all the time and never stall (so far).

Steady tone or Choppy tone?

Steady tone is not indicative of a stall - just means you're bleeding unnecessary energy. Pull back further till you get the choppy tone, pull a wee bit more and see what happens smile

I loose control when pushing further after the choppy tone yes. It's just that it kicks in a bit early. I mean, if I turn, I know I'm bleeding airspeed, I don't need a tone to remind me smile

It's just reminding you that if you turn a little less aggressively, not only will you turn faster but you'll also lose less energy and as a result make it home in time for tea as opposed to spending the next six months in a full-body cast......your virtual self, that is biggrin

It doesn't kick in early at all. Read the manual.

"When the aircraft is within 2 angle of attack units of a stall, a steady warning tone is sounded. When the aircraft is 1 angle of attack unit or less of entering a stall, the tone will become chopped. When you hear the chopped tone, it is best to reduce angle of attack immediately.

From the Stall Warning Control panel, you may control the volume of these two tones. The dial labeled STALL controls the volume of the chopped tone and the PEAK PRFM dial controls the volume of the steady tone. Only the PEAK PRFM tone can be reduced to zero though.
"

Stall speed is 120. I get the continuous tone at 200 mph when turning at a fast - but still manageable - rate.

Anyway, since there is a volume knob that can be turned to zero, I'm okay with it. :p

You can stall the airframe at any airspeed, hence the AoA tone. It's simple: You hear the tone, you're doing it wrong - It's there for a reason wink

What does speed have to do with it?
The stall horns tell you when you're max-performing your aircraft. The chopped tone tells you when you're riding a stall, and in fact you shouldn't ride it because you can already be in a stall and not know it (instruments are not that accurate or have delays). If you're turning fast at 200 and getting the steady tone, you know you have EXACTLY the best performance out of your wings for that turn. So you ride the steady tone and you know you're max-performing the wing. Speed has nothing to do with it ... as Viper said.

My point was that the steady tone annoys me. I get why it is there now, but I believe I can do without it. So I happily tuned it down and I'm feeling much better now :p

But seriously, thanks for the clarifications tho.

Most combat helicopters have a Master Caution tone that seems to work similar in nature. The tone generated is not a progressive tone, but the Master Caution can be silenced. Can this be done with the tone he is hearing in the A-10?
.

As I mentioned before, the volume of the steady tone can be set to zero. It is not a Master Caution-alike warning that you can click-silence tho. Would be inefficient since you get that tone every time you make a turn.

Not if you fly the Hog "right". wink

When I started playing the sim the damn thing was bleeping all the time, too.

Now I basically only hear the tone when I'm performing drastic evasive actions.
