http://www.virtualr.net/shift-2-unleashed-pc-dlc-packs-available-development-ended/#respond

Quote:
EA confirmed on Twitter that the release of the DLC pack and the second patch ends the post-release development process of Shift 2 Unleashed as no further patches for any platform are planned.

Strange, considering the few issues pending, not to mention online compatibility issues with 1.02 patch versions from Steam Vs. EA download and retail.

EDIT:

Reaction to the news by Ian Bell, Head of Development from SMS

Quote:
We won't be making Shift 3 or working with EA in the foreseeable future. We will be focusing our sim efforts on the community funded project.

The CFP will be a simulation level Rally racer AFAIK.

Well, there goes my sale. If EA can't grasp that some kind of proper AntiAliasing without huge performance hit is not optional these days, it's their problem really.

Besides, as one poster there points out - really bad form forcing customers to install and subscripe to Origin just for the 1.02 patch fixes.

so they made 2 good but not great racers in the Shift series... now no more, instead they want to make RUN. (which IMO looks to be a stupid and boring game)... whatever happened to their 3 different versions of NFS they announced a few years agao... the Massive MP, the Sim lite series (shift), and then the arcade series... whatever the hell that was, never played it. lol

Same ol EA... unfortunately i can't quit EA, because they make Battlefield 3 and Mass Effect... otherwise. wink

Yeah pretty lame that SMS had the MSAA features in the Shift2 patch but had to pull it out because EA didn't want to QA it, seems EA mismanaged the opportunity for both Shift1 and Shift2 to be real sims... Hopefully the SMS guys can go on to make some good sims in their new community driven project.

SMS deserves to be far away from EA, especially some of the EA'ers working on the NFS Shift series.

I actually had fun with NFS World while it was in early beta...before they removed controller support.

Yes, that's right - they removed support for a multitude of controllers, left in support for a very small list of them, and essentially left the rest of us with "Keyboard controls or GTFO"

Thanks for posting. I was just about to buy it. Now I won't. Maybe wait until it has sunk in the depths of the bargain bin.

As said above - if they didn't have a couple of games like Mass Effect, I wouldn't touch them ever again. As it is, ME3 and goodbye.

Kind of wishing I hadn't bothered. It's never run how I consider to be acceptable, even with my new card. The first is more fun, looks better, runs far better. Worth it even if only for the Nordschleife. This one...doesn't run well, not as much eye candy, and the racing is just dull compared to the violence of the first, for lack of a better term. LOL
The Origin thing for the patch/dlc wasn't a big deal, just a little silly. Installed, got the dlc, uninstalled.

Overall I've still enjoyed Shift2, it runs ok if you have a good video card/cpu (it really likes my crossfire combo)... the main pluses compared to Shift1 IMHO is more cars and tracks (especially with legends DLC), better FF, night racing, the AI seems less suicidal etc.

I agree RK, probably not worth upgrading from Shift1 + mods for most unless they have a decent sim rig or can find it on bargain bin prices (was avail for $18 a few weeks ago).

Overall I still think it's biggest weakness like Shift1 was the compromised physics, it's ok for a fun game but even FM3 and GT5 have better car physics IMHO and are better overall games.

Still it is pretty fun on the PC when not in a hardcore sim mood, on consoles I would pass on it.
