This year's Plymouth Air Show has been called off after the city council refused permission for a funfair, which provides vital finance for the event, to take place on the Hoe.

The council said it had a duty to ensure the health and safety of events staged on council land, and that an event plan was not delivered within the agreed deadline and therefore the "reservation on the Hoe was cancelled".
