I just built one Floor Unit #F311 by Roerdodger design using PVC tubes (
http://www.rogerdodger.net/diyflightsims/floor_unit.html) and was kind of disappointed. It's far from being rigid and I had to board it up to make is reasonably sturdy, but now it looks ugly and bulky. Then I was looking into the Akers Barnes Cockpit design. Since I'm not good at building and short on time and space (the ABC is quite a bit too big for me), I am always looking for alternatives.
So couple days ago at Costco I saw a $99 Adirondack chair that seems to be perfect for modifying into a "simulation chair". I found its photo on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Astonica-Wood-Adirondack-Unfinished-Chair/dp/B001TB6S5ASeems all I have to do is just to make my own armrests (wider, longer, and a bit closer to each other, etc) and put some cushion on the chair. I sit on the one in Costco and it's very sturdy, should take some modifications no problem. I know it's not even a cockpit, but at least I should mod it to take my HOTAS and probably keyboard and mouse too.
I'm just wondering whether anyone had similar idea or experiences modifying this or similar chair. Any thoughts or comments will be greatly appreciated.
