I have a 1/72nd scale Concorde that I am constructing at the moment, and would like to ask for some assistance...
After I have done the filling and sanding etc I will need to give it a spray of primer, I was thinking as I want a white finish on it to just use a matt white.. Revell Enamel Matt White to be precise. Then, once I am happy that the filler won't cause any issues I shall be spraying it in gloss white, again probably revell enamel... now, I have questions regarding white paint and yellowing... what are the chances of the paint yellowing over time ? how can this be stopped ? With regards to applying a varnish, can I apply an enamel varnish over the top of enamel paint, or will this cause it to run ? Am I better off using an acrylic varnish ? I have not used acrylics before and dont want to mess up !
With regards to finishing, am I better off applying varnish, then decals, another coat of varnish then weathering and final coat of varnish ?
So many questions ! lol

The best results (from a not very extensive test) I have had with white have come from Tamiya acrylics. I spray matt white as a primer, do any pre-shading, then use gloss white neat, at high air pressure. I don't know if acrylics will 'yellow' over time, but I'm pretty sure enamels will. (Could be different, it's 20 years since I dealt with gloss white enamel.)
You can spray enamel varnish over enamel paint with no problems.
If your final colour is gloss, you won't need the varnish coat before decalling.
I know other's swear by Halfords gloss white in an aerosol for doing large areas of white, but I've never tried it myself.

Cheers, was hoping you would say enamels are fine, as I have zero experience with acrylics... don't want to mess up the concorde, as the Vulcan will be next after that.. luckily not a drop of white in sight for that one.. appart from gear bays !

There's nothing to spraying acrylics that you won't have learned from enamels, except a drop of flow enhancer in the colour cup can really help with gloss finishes. (The only caveat to that is Xtracrylics. Good grief, how anyone works with them I just don't know!)

All good suggestions. The most important being to prime. For some reason, white is the worst color imaginable to try to get to cover anything.

Right, after some reading decided to go away from enamels for this one, as I won't be able to stop it yellowing if I use enamels....
been down the local hobby store, and their paint selection is rather pathetic....
any recommendations for acrylic paints please ? can I get away with using a matt white coat as the primer ? Please bare in mind this is for a 1/72nd Concorde, so will need a fair amount of the stuff ! Will probably be purchasing from hannants if they have whatevers recommended.... Is the Tamiya white paint any good, specifically the gloss.. as it needs to be a brilliant white finish... as per the real thing. plus does it need thinning for use in an airbrush ?
Cheers
