'Swastika' you mean? No need to be afraid of a name or historical symbol in my book, it wasn't a swastika that murdered thousands of people. Good on you for including it. The more we remember what the swastika stood for the less likely we are to do anything like that again. But this attempt to blot it from history is just plain wrong. I know I am probably discussing a banned topic here but it needed saying and I will do so everytime I hear this kind of nonsense going on. Its the least we can do to remember those that were murdered and stand up to this attempt to whitewash history by some people.

As for the banning if using them, it's called 'Valve AntiCheat' (VAC) and is only checked if you join a multiplayer server that has it enabled. Currently there is no server 'switch' to turn it off yet so people are being cautious. The files check is initiated by the MP server.

If you just play single player then there is no need to disconnect from the Internet or do anything different to Steam etc.

Bf 109E-3, “White 2”, 4./JG51 – Ofw. Hans Illner

No markings needed.


This appears to be the be the aircraft Illner used in mid-August, after his third victory. What is most unique about it, is that Illner had a set of bright red lips holding a cigarette painted on the front of the under-cowl after his first victory. According to Vol. Two Section 2 of the Jagdwaffe series, the cigarette should have the date of Illner’s first kill, 5 July 1940, printed on it, rather than the brand name. The Eagle Strike decal does not have this. Also the Jagdwaffe volume reports the smoke from the cigarette as gray and black. The decal is printed as red and white. This could come down to photo interpretation.

As to other markings carried by this aircraft, Illner had the name of his girlfriend, Gretel, painted on the fuselage as well as a pair of dice above the name and a yellow clover below.

The aircraft also carried the weeping bird emblem of II./JG 51. At first look, it appears that the legend under the bird is “Gott strafe Bngland”. But, upon closer examination, England is spelled with an “E” not a “B”.
