Recently, I've been getting into rfactor in a big way. I'm still a massive amateur, but I think that I'm finally reaching the limits of what can be done on an xbox 360 controller.

So I'm in the market for a wheel. In an ideal world, I'd jump right on one of those Fanatecs, as they look fantastic, and the compatibility with PS3, PC and Xbox would be a massive bonus for me. However, as hard as I might, I can't justify shelling out well over £200 on a wheel just yet, which left me looking at the Logitech Driving Force, which I can pick up for less than half the price of a Fanatec.

I've read the reviews on amazon, and they all seem very positive, but they all are coming from perspective of arcade and console gamers. So I wanted to get your opinions on how this wheel performs in a racing sim?

The main games I'll be playing with it are rfactor and Race 07. I'll be wanting to give iRacing a try once I get a wheel, and my lap times get a little more competitive also. Once in a blue moon, I'll probably play a bit of GT5 and Dirt 2 on the PS3 with it as well.

So is this the best wheel for the job, or is there something better out there? I here some of the Thrustmasters in the £100 region are pretty good.

lord Doom, if a DFGT is what is in your price range then go get it.

I used the predecessor of the GT, a Logitech Driving Force Pro for many years and i still keep it as my backup as it is a great piece of equipment. I used it on rFactor, the Race series and even on iRacing for a fair while and it never let me down.

It is an excellent wheel for the price and i am sure you would have very few complaints with it. The only part of the wheel to be flawed are the pedals and to be honest as long as you wear socks and not shoes they do the job just fine and are much, much better than a controller. Another thing to realize is that if necessary you could buy the wheel now and if in the future you want to improve the pedals save up and go get a set of Fanatec Clubsport Pedals.

The only other wheel close to that price range that would compare i guess would be a Fanatec Porsche Carrera but even that is probably 40-50 quid more expensive.

The DTGT is a fine wheel (as was the DFP) and is used by many top sim racers. You certainly won't be dissapointed with the purchase. As Myrig pointed out, the weakest part of the package is the pedals but they are sill more than adequate and do the job perfectly well. Personally i much prefer the feel of Logitech wheels over the Fanatec's (i've owned two and ended up right back with my G27) but that's just personal preference. The DFGT Works great on PC or PS3 but does NOT work on the 360.

You won't find a better wheel at that price point IMO.

Going on both of your advice, and the fact that it's currently only £85 at Argos at the minute, I think I'll picking one up this weekend. It sucks that there's no 360 support, but I'll just have to put my Forza career on the back burner for a while.

Thanks for your help.

That's a fantastic deal. I buy these at trade and it's not a whole lot less than that wink

You should definately go for it then you can join us in the Skoda Touring cars!

I just looked at the schedule, and I'll be about for the race on the 29th, although with little over a week to buy and get used driving with a wheel, I'll struggle to make the 107% rule!

LD, the guys here at SimHQ convinced me to buy the DFGT as a replacement for my old MOMO back in March. I’m really happy with it ... especially with the number of “buttons” available which you really need for rFactor. I went from 10 on my MOMO (including the shifters) to 24 on the DFGT! They all come in handy too.

The one gripe I have with the DFGT are the small “paddle shifter” buttons that don’t press too easily (and they're not paddles at all). They seem easy to press at first but a while into a lengthy race I found that my middle fingers were cramping up (I’m 6’4”, 230 lbs so my hands aren’t exactly small either). The wheel does come with the sequential shifter though which I’m getting used to and am actually quite enjoying.

Solid wheel ... worth the price of admission.

Wow, am I the only one still using a Momo? wink I have to tear it down and clean it up from time to time, but it's what I've used since 2005. smile

No console support, just an older PC Logitech wheel and pedals.

Weas, it's time for you to upgrade. I still have my Momo (as a tertiary back-up) but it is so out-classed by the G27 and Fanatec gear that if you're getting back to racing with us, you owe yourself a new wheel/pedal combo.

My Fanatec PWTS/CSP combo just went over 18 months. Works great so far. The Clubsport Pedals (CSP) are truly worth the coin. Put all that on a wheel stand or in a sim-pit, and you'll get a lot more enjoyment out of your hobby, IMO.

I bought my DFGT half a year ago. I used it with Race 07. What I don´t like: It looses the calibration after a few minutes of driving. The center is going to the right. I used the latest logitech driver for WIN 7 64bit.
