This is my V-Pit build it's generic, perhaps a bit over the top but tons of fun. the tail section slides forward for semi-enclosed effect. Will be adding control panel with switches. The graphics are on removable poster board if I decide to wire up side consoles. It uses a rear screen projector which gives full scale panel when flying.

Hi,

Very nice pit. I see you made it for either yoke or side stick - clever.

I love the sliding tail idea, very novel...

What material did you use for your back projected screen ?

What is the picture quality like compared to a monitor ?

I'm intending going down the back projection route in my Comanche pit, but was going to use ground glass panels. Availibility and cost of them would be a problem though.

Once again, well done.

Andy

I use a regular white shower curtain and it works great. You will lose a little brightness but with the modern projectors it's not much of a problem. There are other materials but I found a lot of them would hot spot in the center. A shower curtain is so cheap that if you don't like it you can move on to something else. The picture quality is just a clear as a monitor, the projector determines that, 1024x728 and up is very clear.

I've attached a pic but unfortunately the camera and the dark room makes it seem blurry but this is at 1024 x 768 and full scale. The great thing about a projector is you can adjust the size of the image to suit the simulator scale. Hope this helps Smile2

It sure does help!!

I'll give the shower curtain a try before outlaying the money for ground glass.

Thanks for that,

Andy

I have a home theater projector and use a screen I built using fabric from a fabric store. I just looked around until I found something that looked about right. What I ended up with is a material that is designed to be curtain lining. It's not too glossy and not too flat. It was fairly inexpensive and I've been using it for about 6 years now without complaints. (I suppose if I saw my picture on a REAL screen I may think otherwise, but considering I spent only about $30 on the materials including framing, it's a damn good screen).

EDIT: OOPS. I just noticed you're talking about REAR projection. Ignore.
