Yep that was his attitude. LOL!
Glad you guys like the stories.
I will see if I can scan in some more pictures over the weekend and keep his story alive.
Went to visit his grave with my Kids at Memorial Day and they where talking to the tombstone marker as they never got to meet him.
Choked me up for sure.

You know, that is my story to, never met my Dads father either, and then my son never gets to meet my Father. It does have its affects.
I tell my son everything I remember from stories my father and uncles shared with us.

Must keep the story of your family alive and pass it onto your kids to see the hardship and triumphs those of the past went through to get them where they are today. I have had dreams about talking to my grandfather James. One dream I had was particularly vivid where I was walking through a city park and sat down on a bench and a gentleman sits down next to me with a Fedora hat on and introduces himself as my grandfather Fred. I told him I was so glad to finally meet him but I always thought he went by his first name "James". He says no that is the name by Mom and Dad gave me but "Fred" is the name I go by.
He said if you want to find me and Martha (my grandmother) look over by that Myrtle tree and when I looked back he was gone and I woke up in a sweat. Well I looked everywhere online trying to find him and guess what I found in an Online 1923\1924 Gastonia NC city directory under Chapman:
Chapman Fred (Martha), emp Myrtle Mills h16 same

I jumped out of my skin after reading that. Like something out of a movie. LOL!
Not a big believer in the supernatural but man oh man that shocked me.

Thanks for the photos and background, especially Bunky's happy story.
