I've got the new system up and running great. I play IL2 alot and mostly online. The new system however won't let me get to any online servers. I'm running Norton Anti Virus, but I have that on my old system and it never interfered with online gaming.

I've also tried turning off the firewalls to no avail. I switched the network from home to public. What am I missing and what are the steps I need to take to tell Win7 to F-off and mind it's own business while I fly online?

If someone could give me a step by step procedure that would be awesome.

Maybe your settings in the UAC are too high? check your Firewall exceptions?
I just did a complete overhaul and re-format with a fresh copy of Win7 w/SP1 had no problems, Behind a router? check to see if you need to port forward though if your last machine worked then that is probably not it, just throwing possible solutions out there.

So you're trying a direct IP connect or such and get a connection error?

The Firewall stuff in Win7 is a bit multi-layered. Not only is there the Firewall itself, but also "Windows Defender" or what's it's name that will prompt when new applications try to access the net. If you are behind a router (otherwise not recommended) you can try turning pretty much everything off in the security center, UAC down to very low, run the game as admin.

You can also try renaming the game executable to a different game or program that works online. Just to see if maybe that works, which would prove it's a rule set problem somewhere and not a tech problem.

Thank you guys for such prompt responses! I had another person suggest setting the il2fb.exe to "run as administrator" and that worked!

LOTS of security stuff in Win7, big learning curve upgrading from WinXP.

Thanks again guys!

The problem in understanding Win7 security is that even if you are a member of the administrator group, you are not always an administrator. Did you get a firewall prompt when running it as admin or did it simple run straight away?

I admit when I got mine installed Nov 2009, first thing was to drop UAC, disable all security features and tools. No problems since, but I know what I'm doing.

Sometimes the firewall will pop-up once you start a (new) game asking for permission to allow/block.
This window sometimes stays hidden until you exit the game.At least it does for me.The only clue it is there at all is a small noise notification that could be easily missed.

*edit* Although thinking about it you would have seen the notification when you exit the game,so it's probably not that at all.
