Patch installed smoothly. I laoded the game and Crossfire works, good news, and both GPU's become active and rise from their Idle clock settings, again hats off to the dev's for getting this working as it doubled my FPS right there alone.

My problem is now it strobes like a light bulb is flickering behind me and over my shoulder. I will need to sit back and tweak the settings as I have everything maxed out as from before and unless things have changed something is causing this nuisance.

Any suggestions where I should be looking to change settings? Has this been noted before?

Thanx for that link. I tried some of the suggestions there but still getting a strobe. Funny thing is even with cross fire unchecked both GPU's still are active but I lose some fps. The crossfire logo remains on with it turned on in game or off. Has me stunped as I try to tweak it I need to exit and restart the game then load a mission. I'll have more time tomorrow and I'll turn down every slider and see if that helps. Just can't fly it with this strobe effect ... last thing I need is a seizure.

Anyone using an ATI 4870X2?

Fox 3,

I'm runnin 2X 4870's as well. When I checked the Multi-GPY box in 1.019, I suffered huge FR loss, I mean low in the single digits. . . SLIDE SHOW. Along with that, I suffered trees and balloons popping in and out.

I have since UNchecked the multi-GPU box, since it ran fine before, and will continue testing tonight.

Best of luck to you

Ted

Figured out a solution to getting the strobe effect off in the game.

Use a single card. I use a dbl gpu single card so this is not possible.

For those of us with (2) gpu's on a single card this is not as simple as turning off a multi gpu switch ingame. Things need to be disabled in the video card for the strobe effect to disappear. When this is done frame rates are cut in half but the game can be flown again with out the irrating flashing. Oh Joy.

Mebbe in a coming patch this will be worked out but the way I read it the engine was not developed with SLI/ Crossfire in its gameplan.

fox3, try turning off Catalyst AI in the ATI CCC.

Thanx ArgonV thats what I needed to do to get the game to see my GPU as a single card when I load the game. I am guessing crossfire for the 4870X2 is a no go since no other crossfire user has noted this problem.

Unless there is a fix I will have to accept the lower frame rates and single card. That and try to remember to force maximum clocks and turn off Catalyst AI if I load the game.

Great glad that worked! One other thing you could try is disabling any color profiles you may have set in CCC.

Ok I found the solution to get CrossFire to work with XP64 and an ATI HD4870X2 without that annoying strobe effect.

AMD recently has a hotfix out 11.5b. I was using hotfix 11.5a and earlier drivers with no luck. You need to search specifically for this hotfix since AMD does not advertise these for whatever reason.

Upside is both gpu's are active and rise from idle clocks when the game loads.

Downside you get flashing for a second or so when your plane first appears on loading and then disappears or if you go external view it disappears immediately. I can live with that I guess.

That and you get no jump in FPS but the game runs silky smooth with everything max'd, over towns and DF's with 8 other crates involved.

11.5a gave me 100+ fps or 60 with vsync on and that strobe effect nuisance. Using 11.5b and it hovers at 40 fps going to 35 in busy areas.
