The most asked for racing among those of you who completed our recent poll was Touring Cars. After a lot of review, we have picked the Octavia Skoda Cup cars. This is one of the very best mods rFactor has to offer, and is designed perfectly for this series of races. This is not a points series and the idea is to show up, run, and have fun. You'll find you need little practice to enjoy these cars, so its perfect for those who have little time to practice. We're calling it the SSTCS, or SimHQ Skoda Touring Car Series. No pre-registration or car assignments. Just pick your color of car and go!

Yes! Looking forward to driving these cars in a SimHQ series. I liked driving these cars in single player back in the day, but didn't get a chance to do multiplayer with anybody.

These cars are quite fun to bang around in for sure, just fast enough to be a challenge but very stable, smooth and predictable under most circumstances. Unfortunately I'll be missing the first couple rounds as I planned my summer get away around the SCES series. Great news about WK and Envy, it's been too long since we've seen them around. Did they finally invent electricity in your neck of the woods WK?

Did a practice session with Panther. Fun fun cars, but the tires go away after 4-5 laps so take it easy! Lupos on steroids!
And don't forget to hit your marks. I over drove one corner and broke the front end... just a little bit. I think it will buff out, if they can find the tires. It was a hard hit.

HAHA! Yeah, we finally got some of that there electricity stuff! Been too long away! Finally got connected with 5.5Mbps DSL out in my neck of the woods and everything ops checked okay tonight.
Steph, everything can be buffed out...been there done that (for real...lol).

Car gets light after a few laps. Hit your marks, downshift, easy brakes, and feather the throttle through the corners. Smooth is fast...don't over drive.
Hey guys, I'm seeing a sort of window-blinds effect across the windshield and the side windows. I cannor see out enough to drive the car. Anyone else? Any thoughts?

Do you happen to have another version of the mod loaded Dave? All I can think of. Anyone else have an idea?
I am pretty sure that I did not have the Skoda mod installed. All of the files say 6/6/2011 so I am convinced it isn't that. I tried a different track and same anomaly. Change to a different mod and the effect goes away. The cars look fine on the spinner but after going to the track I see this weirdness. It's getting late for me here so tomorrow I will download and re-install to cover the possibility of some file corruption.

5 lap sprints should be a blast. 20 minute races will take some patience as the tires go pretty much bald after 4-5 laps...heh.
Running with Envy just a bit ago with the server set up for a 5 lap race. I took it a little easy and on the final lap (5) I slid off track while hitting my mark in the back esses and whacked the wall. JR Hildebrand all over again! Still finished 1st out of three (Me, Envy and CPU) but it could have been bad if I hadn't been able to slow a little before hitting the wall.

Good direction , but still hard for Central Europe residents. 2 a.m. on clock and after races here at 03:30 it's already almost daylight in June :-)
And now seriously about the schedule for June 12th. Is it possible to move the race start, best would be two hours earlier, right after finish of Lemans 24H :-). The reason is Canadian F1 Grand Prix. The Grand Prix will start at 1pm.EST. The pre-shows will start almost an hour earlier. This is one of my favourite races of the year, and this year with Pirelli tyres and double DRS zone intruduced for first time in Montreal, one can expect hell of a fun in that race.
I understand that would be quite early wake up call for guys from midwest or west coast time zones, but nothing compares to Sunday morning coffee and sound of rFactor kicking in :-)

That is VERY welcome. Thankyou Doug.
For those who are skeptical about trying this (as i was!) i'd like to give a quick comment...
Now i know these cars aren't as powerful as the DTM's and the word 'Skoda' is probably enough to send most v8 petrol heads running for the hills but i beg you to give them a chance. This mod has been created by an engineer for the 2008 Skoda racing team and is built using real world data, telemetry, and driver input. The result is one of the most realistic driving experiences i have seen in rFactor. Sure they may not be lightning quick but they are certainly fast enough to catch you out if you push too far past the limit. The superb handling and damage give one of the most realistic racing experiences i've had in recent years and seeing these cars bob and roll on the suspension is a thing of beauty. The fun is multiplied tenfold with every additional driver so put your reservations aside, stick a bag on your head, change your identity or do whatever it takes to get behind the wheel of one of these and join us on track for what will likely be one of the closest and most fun series of races we've had. I swear after a few laps you'll be hooked.
If anyone fancies a runaround i'll more than likely be on the server this evening.

Dave, Check your display options and make sure Player Detail is set to FULL. This should stop the texture scaling and solve the problem. The mod is well optimized so it will make little difference to performance.

Record the race, and everyone promise NO SPOILERS
These look like lots of fun. I will probably only be around for the Sunday races if the weather is lousy (which would be a good bet based on the last few weeks) or I will be out at the lake with no Internets.
I will try to make some of the Wednesday races, they will be a bit early for me, but I will see what I can do.
Just one problem, because it seems that its colliding a bit with Canadian GP, during this weekend. Hmm!
Yep, I already mentioned it. We just have to change format from race time to laps... and you will make sure we finish beore GP kicks in hehe.
Looks like we have fantastic weekend in front us. Lemans 24 H, Canadian F1 GP and Sim HQ race!!!! And it's not even my birthday... or wait... actually it is my birthday this Saturday LOL
Time for little quizz again - I share my birthday with two F1 race winners: one won multiple championships second won only 1 race... Who are they? First to answer right is invited to my b-day party and have all drinks on the house :-)

We ran this mod over at Speedracin.net for one of the Ironman rounds in 2009, we had a lot of fun close racing with these cars. The biggest thing with these, any spec series really, is no or minimal mistakes as BOOM you lose multiple spots right away and it is tough to climb back up the grid.

Guys, keep in mind anyone can grab any car. The spotter guide image wasn't to lock you in, just show what is available. First one there picks their color. No dibs on specifics. Who knows, maybe we'll have a whole field of 09's for one of the races. Easiest way to do this is buy all 20 cars then you can sort once you connect.

I'm unfortunately going to have to miss this series as I just don't have the time atm, and wouldn't be able to make the first 2 races at all as it is... I might be able to make the final race but I don't want to take a spot from someone else if they can make the whole series...

Not for points and no assigned cars Pumbaa. If you get a free time for even one event, you'll be fine.
Rules addition - each race winner gets 10 kg / 22 lbs added to their car weight. It is cumulative. At the end of the event, the weight penalties are removed.
Great event, great fun! Thanks to my main rivals, Darren and Coutie :-)
And of course special thanks to Doug, first for giving us another surprising, extra version of Quali, this time at night and without headlights, second for filling my car with 20 kilos of pure mule excrement for the 2 last races and making me boil inside of my Skoda with all that!
Whoever didnt show up yesterday - You dont know how much fun you missed :-)
I had a blast tonight. These cars are fun to drive. The driving feel of these cars are great. It was even fun just turning laps with nobody in sight. I encourage those with the time to try this series out.
LOL, what is it with me and qualifying lately? Things come in 3's so that's it! (I hope).Yeah, first thing I did was *fix* the qualifying to 12PM instead of 12AM. Just for good measure, I went through all the other server settings. So all the surprises are over. Maybe.

Sorry to have missed the first group of races and glad to have made the finale. These cars provide great close racing and they look great. Thanks for the series SimHQ!
as far as the headlights go I think that is down to the headlight covers being on the cars not that they do not have lights.
Had all the good intention in the world to join the fun at 1am (UK), by midnight I had fallen asleep in front of the TV only to wake up at 2.30am!! Next time the wild fish-tailing Brit will be there, ok not up the pointy end but in amonst the action.
Only watched the first race video so far and Darren, you could sniff second in the last 2 corners, good racing all.

Hi Doc, Good to see you made it over here
Yup, i struggled a bit with the starts there. Unfortunately I lost a lot of time and Alex and Cossaco were driving far too well.
The final race was shaping up nicely until i dropped it into the wall
but it's worth noting that the handling improves after removing the front end!
Great racing last night everyone. It was good fun and the driving by braille qualli session was a hoot. Doug, how about we do the next one in reverse gear to make it even more difficult?

As I did my tiny bit in mod testing and voicing my enthusiasm to Doug, I am really happy you guys enjoy this series...
Unfortunately I will most likely miss Sunday race, as guests have confirmed visiting for usual feature of watching F1 race together. Next weekend I am travelling to visit my family but I should be back in arrive&drive mode for next event.
BTW, is setup on server different from default of the mod from custom SimHQ download?
These cars are a hoot to drive and race! Although I will admit that I was somewhat dubious about this selection you can list me as a convert.
My usual preference is for open-wheel race cars that are too difficult for me to drive. This normally involves high power-to-weight ratios and frequent swapping of ends due to injudicious throttle application. No such problem with the Octavia. The mod is well done and the feel of it reminds me of my real life Buick sedan. I would describe the handling as “pleasantly mushy”. You still have to find the efficient way around the track. You can “hustle” the car a bit but if you overdrive the corners your lap time increases. Welcome to Understeer World! As I noted, I like it.
Now my fear is that if word of this gets out I may have trouble getting a spot on the grid.
Well done to Doug and the crew that put this together!

I was just on the server and TC wasn't allowed when I hit it.
Man these cars are fun! I finally ran a new best of 1:39.7 but that was hanging everything out. This was after I realized my Momo brakes were dragging so I had to tear them apart and clean/adjust everything since I haven't used them for a couple years...heh.
I should be there Sunday at noon! This would be an awesome series with 15-20 (human) cars on course. Maybe when it gets cold again.

Looking forward to racing these on Sunday. I raced on Wednesday and can't get enough. Hopefully we get a decent crowd.
Might have to give you a "welcome back" wheel donut on your door during the race.

Rubbin's racin'!
I was still having trouble with the Momo's brake dragging a little so I tore it completely down again. What a pain to reassemble! I think I have it working now, just ran 10 laps of practice on the server and got another 1:39.777 with an average of around 1:40.5. Of course that's with no traffic. Maybe by the last race Sunday I'll figure out a quicker line since I was gone all week on vacation.
I'll try not to kill anybody during my return race weekend...I'm still a little rusty.
For anyone who is concerned about missing the start of the Canadian GP, I'll advise before it starts so you will have time to run for the televison. I'm going to try real hard to get all our racing in before the GP warm-up lap starts.
Get there on time Sunday because the first 5 lap race is going to happen right after 12 PM.

I didn't touch my settings since the sces race where I sometimes use low tc to compensate for worn tyres so I may well have had it set on low. Had I realized I would have turned it off as these cars will almost certainly be quicker without it.
As I often stick shift i allow myself the luxury of autoclutch unless there's a reason not to. I'll disable it for the rest of the series if you like, it's often quicker anyhow

Ah, okay. What a driver has set as driving aid options is over-ridden by the server settings. That explains it. No TC for these scooters.
I guess the XML reports whatever a driver has set without regards to the server override.
SimHQ Towers / 13 June, 2011 -- The governing officials of the SSTCS met in a late Monday night session to address the problem of repetitive winners in the series. It was determined that a more significant weight penalty should be applied for each race win.
Effective with the next event at Autumn Ring, the weight penalty -- also known as "mule excrement" -- will double from 10 kg to 20 kg. As are the current rules, the weight penalty is cumulative (two wins: 20 kg x 2 = 40 kg). At the end of each event, all weight penalties are removed.
Series Race Steward Francois Rouge was quoted, "It is only fair that all entrants have an ample opportunity to win a race. So those that persist on becoming too fast -- we will fix their oxen cart!"
Man, I tested Autumn Ring before seeing the comments by Weasy and Johnny. Going into the esses after the start line surprised me. I was cutting the curb/kerb and was in for a rude surprise. Went onto my side and then quickly into the fence. It was surprising, yet fun. That's definitely a danger area at the start of a race if people don't respect it.
Otherwise, this track is pretty cool. It's my first time driving on this track. Setup is nice too. Thanks for the track selection/setup crew.

I did exactly the same on my first lap.
Never seen this track before, but like it a lot already.
Chaps, Can someone point me towards where to get the SimHQ 2 IP address so that i can use it for Darrens RFConnect software? As a PC goon i can't seem to find it.
cheers Myrig.

It should be in the help text (i think!) In the case of multiple servers you need to specify a port number. These increment upwards from 34297 (for the first server) so SimHQ 2 needs to be entered as follows: 64.50.169.150:34298

Trying to make it but it doesn't look too promising. I started reconfiguring my brake setup Monday and I'm still thrashing. I may make the latter race(s) if so I'll give a shout on TS. have fun everyone1

Sorry we missed you, it was a hoot! A lot cleaner than I thought it would be, except for me going Chitwood on two wheels over a kerb and hitting the wall.
The night race was really fun although hard to see. Somebody spun in front of me and I couldn't see him until I T-boned into whoever it was. Sorry about that.
Crazy track though. Get into a groove and it's pretty easy. When I slipped up anywhere I lost every bit of momentum I had for the rest of that lap.
Great fun though, thanks everyone for coming out tonight!
Good fun yes? Got to apologise for my wayward driving all, my first race and I'm still using the keyboard, its a little unforgiving. Brings a whole new meaning to the phrase point and squirt!
Spent most of the time looking in the mirrors and defending(ahem) rather than racing. Not sure why I had a Stop&Go but I'm sure I deserved it, hope I didn't hinder anyones race.
Knew nothing of this 'Teamspeak' so maybe someone can enlighten me.
Persistent computer problems prevented me from getting on tonight, as some of you may have heard. Because of an active Saitek X52 profile and active bindings rFconnect opened up 255 times on my first attempt to open it. Once I had all the windows closed I tried it again (30 seconds until server advanced to the race) 255 more windows opened up.
I restarted my computer, connected to SimHQ TS, had an issue with TS RC1 and ACRE (Arma 2 plugin for TS) causing a clone of mine to get stuck on the SimHQ TS server, and was unable to reconnect to TS. Cleared my DNS Cache and tried a few more things and eventually gave up.

Next time! Sounds like the computer gods did not want you to drive tonight.

Hi Doc.
You're driving with a keyboard? Amazing speed considering! Can you get a wheel soon? You would have a lot more fun driving!
We use Teamspeak 3 for in-race comms.
Below are the two references to get you connected. Teamspeak 3 is free. If problems, post back in here. You do not need a microphone, but we ask that drivers monitor my dulcet audible tones* for the event.
Been years since I raced online, so long in fact the 2 wheels I have both have 15 pin din cables.... Maybe I will have to treat myself to a new usb wheel and join the 21st century!
My staple diet of GP4 racing way back got me used to the keyboard but I'm sure an analogue controller would be much better.
I just have to say those races last night were an absolute riot.. I thoroughly enjoyed them. These cars are just up my street, slippy slidey and just fast enough to cause me problems.
The last 5 laps or so of race 4 were just brilliant with Darren, Alex and to a lesser extent me racing tight, hard and mainly fair to the finish. In the end Darren and Alex were just too quick for me to catch but there was always the possibility that they would take each other out and i would benefit...
No matter, i got a 2nd and a 3rd over the 4 races and these constitute my best ever SimHQ race finishes so i'm happy! I shall be there on Sunday it at all possible and anyone who is shying away from these machines is missing some brilliant close racing.

lol DD, that was funny. So many comedy moments last night it's hard to know where to begin. Fantastic racing by everyone, it was a real hoot from start to finish. Those last laps I had with Alex and Myrig were simply amazing. Awesome driving from you guys! Alex and I were racing so hard I was convinced Myrig would take the opportunity to sneak by. Great to see weasy back looking fast and also providing a welcome boost to the Skoda spare parts industry.
MANY congrats to Dirt Diver for a great drive and the win in race two. Well done DD, very well deserved and great to see.
These cars are simply incredible, if anyone is reading this and is unsure about giving them a try then just do it. This is some of the closest, hardest and most exciting racing we've had. Hope to see you all (and more!) on Sunday for the next installment in SimHQ's wacky races!

Sorry to hear that ekempey. Was this a one off or is it likely to be an ongoing issue?? I could probably add some code to prevent multiple instances, but if the program is being called by an external source then it would only hide the underlying problem.

It wasn't rFConnect's fault, it was because I was flying right before the races with a virtual squadron and had my x52 configured with a profile. After I left Falcon 4.0 I forgot to turn off the profile which then became the cause for multiple instances to open.
Congratulations to Dan Bailey (DBR9), Dave Bradley, and Darren Blythe for winning the races at Autumn Ring! Seems to win on Sunday, your initials needed to be "DB".
Halfway point in the SSTCS. On to the twisty-bits of Cadwell!
Good to see Dan and Chris Johnson back for some racing!

Strange that my track wouldn't work. I tried it out in single player but I was just floating above the track. I am going away so I will miss the race on Sunday and Wednesday.
Yesterday I got invited to a meeting, which starts 1 hour after Skoda, so I think I'll only do a couple first races, unfortunately :-( But it should be good anyways. See You there
More great fun today!!!! I killed my car a couple of times. I won a race!!!!! (dancing through the raindrops without getting wet). Looks like the DBs have it their way right now (I'm thinking Da Birdski is an honorary DB).
My apologies to all I collided with. It's hard to know just how hard to fight for a position and sometimes I get it all wrong.
New job assignment pulls me out of simracing for few months, as I will spend way more time in hotels and planes than at home. Great to read the Skodas are such a success. I will keep reading and watching replays on my laptop rF install.
Will try to make occasional appearances when my schedule allows.

That course (Cadwell) was a blast and is made for this style of car! Some great racing today!
I'm normally okay at Cadwell and have done fairly well there in the past. No idea why today I had three separate incidents at the esses on top of the hill. The first one I went off and ended up lost in the woods for a bit, kept dropping off the world until I finally found the magic portal back to the track.
The second one I got all kinds of off balance and hit the big rocks hard, throwing me back onto the track. My engine was dead and before I could get out of the game a few cars came blazing into the esses and I collected them. Sorry about that!
The last one was the big 20 minute race with AI. I was trying hard to get around the AI on lap 1 but when we got to the esses on top of the hill I got brake checked by an AI car. I hit my brakes, tapped his bumper, and it threw me into the same freakin' rocks and back onto the track again...creating a huge pileup. Sorry again, although I blame the AI more than myself.

Very fun today, can't wait for Wednesday!
What I really want to know is, how did Rob get through that eight car carnage? I've watched the replays and its still unbelievable!

Ahhhh, Old Ring! A track I love to hate! When I nail my lines it's an absolute blast to drive. If/when I miss a line I always seem to hit a wall. At least there's some runoff so I shouldn't leave my heap of what once was a car in the middle of the track.

WOW! Great fun tonight!
Brain farted on the 20 minute race and thought we had crossed the checkers. I saw the 1:00 to go around the back of the course so I figured it was over by the time I got up there. I saw an AI car and thought Birdski was going to take him out at T1 (post race crashem ups) so I was there for the assist...but missed...and exploded into the wall...and realized everyone was still racing. Ooops! Sooo glad I didn't take out Birdski!
Congratulations to the winners in tonight's races!
3 lap - Darren Blythe 3 lap inverse - Weasel Keeper fastest qualifier - DaBirdski 10 minute - Darren Blythe 10 minute - DaBirdski 10 minute - Darren Blythe 20 minute - Cossacco
4 winners in 6 races again!
After the official races, a small group who just couldn't get enough of these door bangers continued on in a series of 3-lappers. Some fierce racing so be sure and catch the replays, all included in the zip file!
Sorry I missed the party yesterday. Saved on the panel beaters bill tho I guess
Hardware issues being the problem and at least allowed for an early night
Fired up the PC 10 mins before kick off and got the blue screen of death and PC lockup. Rebooting just left me with a black screen.
Backup plan.... hot swapped for No.1 PC which has no wheel and got to the grid only to have Rfactor dump me out to the desktop at the crucial time! Tried to get back in but got 'join timeout' error and that was that, no racing for me.
Hope to get things sorted for Sunday, your not getting off that easy!
Despite the fact, that I didnt get to race too much, mostly because I just wasnt ready and crashed out like an idiot :P, it was great fun again in the end. Fantastic racing with Birdski and Darren. Especially that last series of little heat races with Birdski!
...and of course the "special race", a present from guod, with 20 (?) AI's and all starting in front of us on the grid! Was fun

What an awesome series, thanks Doug!!! Great way for me to get back into racing, and I even won a couple...heh.
Thanks to EVERYONE who showed up for the racing! Every race had plenty of human drivers (be cool to have more) and it kept the racing fun and fast.
And whoever got me loose so I spun on the last twisties and took 2nd from me (Ben Holt?) I wasn't mad. The final lap always gets dicey and you were racing me good. I was trying not to mess up while kind of holding you back...I may have got on the brakes a little sooner than normal. Cheers!
Yes, that was me, again sorry about that. You braked just a fraction of a second sooner than me so I had to divebomb you or rear end your. I choose the divebombing. Also a thanks from me Doug, you seem to come up with some nice series.
Good fun today, even though I couldn't stay for long. Never driven the track before but learned it pretty quickly. I think I caused the big accident in the seconds race, so sorry about that.
Congratulations to today's winners. What a fun series! Look for the Skodas to return in autumn. I already picked the tracks.
yay, Absolutely loved these cars.. brilliant fun.
+2
Skodas Thanks to the organizers!
I like these touring cars because they don’t go too too fast so it’s easier for me to stay out of trouble ... except for today when I had wheels, body parts and suspensions flying all over the place. Sorry for any trouble I’d caused on that first chicane. When you try to squeeze 15 cars thru there off the start, sh1t happens
Looking forward to the next Skoda set. Maybe we can throw a personalized coat of paint on ‘em next time around.
