Has anyone tried converting the jepg textures of the old FS( planes etc to DDS so that they show up when you use FSX Acceleration and DX10?

At the moment I get the panels and the models appearing in FSX ok but the planes are all white (no textures) and I believe its down to the use of Directx10 and Acceleration. I wondered if you change all the textures of the old planes from jpegs to dds (which is the Acceleration texture type) will the textures then appear ok? I love the old planes such as the Trimotor from FS9 and just wondered whether the textures could be made to show up in FSX Acceleration?

Has anyone done this already and has a converted set of these old planes with converted textures?

Unfortunately converting the textures to dds wont make them appear in DX10 mode, its something in the planes model (mdl file) that prevents them working.

Normally, planes made for FS9 show up in FSX in DX9 mode just fine, without any extensive texture conversion.

You can, however, convert the textures to DDS files just fine. Just keep in mind that they should be in DXT5 format.

So does it or doesn't it work then? Two conflicting answers lol!

Yes FS9 planes work in DX9. No FS9 planes don't work in DX10.

If you do run any FS9 planes for occasional use in DX9 it certainly wont hurt to convert them to DDS format just make sure its DXT5.
If anything I've noticed that when running FS9 planes that the textures can sometimes be a little slow to load but converting them to DDS seems to greatly reduce and in some cases eliminate that problem.

Now after saying that There are some FS9 planes that will work OK in DX10, It depends on how the model was coded. Unfortunatly there few and far between.
I think I have a couple of gliders that work but that's about it.

Thanks for the answer - shame I like DX10 so much as there are quite a few planes I would like to get. Stupid idea this non-backward compatibility lark but theres no denying the DX10 version looks much better and works much faster than DX9. I will just have to do without the planes - there are enough in the game as it is I suppose.
