I want to get the FSX expansion 'Around the World in 80 flights', more for the Electra plane than the flights in order to recreate Amelia Earharts flight around the world attempt. But I am not sure that the Electra plane supplied will work correctly with Acceleration and DX10 as all my other planes Ive got off the internet dont (no textures) - anyone know if this will work with those or not? Dont see the point in just getting the flights without the plane as Ive already got a list of Amelia Earharts flight plan and stop offs and so can set up those myself.
Anyone know if this plane works with Acceleration and DX10 please?

Hmm I take it that it doesnt then - guess I wont be getting that expansion after all I cant play in DX9 mode (looks and runs rubbishly) you would think these expansions producers would have their products updated for Acceleration and DX10 by now.

DX10 causes me more problems than it is worth, IMO. I turn the DX10 Preview off.

DX10 causes me more problems than it is worth, IMO. I turn the DX10 Preview off. Well I tried that and messed about endlessly with the settings but all I get is mushed up text in my ATC window and lousy low res textures in my cockpit and on the planes if I turn off Directx10 whereas with DX10 everything is pinpoint sharp. I also tried doing some of the things in the above post about performance but I didnt like them much - for example turning off Anisotropic filtering makes the scenery look dreadful whereas with it on everything looks photorealistic. Although I have put all the other sliders much higher than I had them before after reading that, and turned off object shadows etc and I have much nicer looking game with DX10 on. I just cant play with DX9 any more after getting used to the new standard, it may only be a 'preview' but it blows the socks off DX9 - much faster and much, much, much prettier. I guess I will just have to look for planes that can use DX10 but its tricky because most if not all manufacturers don't seem to mention whether their products support DX10 or not, which essentially means I cant buy any of their products. Its a bit daft because they are losing out on massive share of the market because I am sure I am not the only one who plays with DX10 on, and not willing to lose the visual quality for a single plane add-on. I suppose most will be gearing up for MS Flight anyway now so I guess I can just play with the planes I have till then - they are a pretty good set.

Loss of visual quality in DX10 vs DX9 is odd, since DX10 in FSX limits your anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering options. With DX9, you can run (extremely) high AA and AF settings, while DX10 limits you to an in-game setting of 2x AA and (I think) 2x AF when you set the appropriate options in the menu.

Well it certainly looks better with DX10 Preview enabled than not but I haven't tried configuring my graphics card separately to get decent graphics with DX9. Im not sure I want to mess around like that to be honest I'm not all that bothered about flying extra planes.

Nats, i think i know what is the problem. look into your catalyst control centre and under 3d application settings check your mipmap detail level, it should be at Quality, if it is down at performance you get issues like you have, happened to me once.

I agree with Nats. DX9 looks lousy compared to DX10. I only fly with DX10 preview checked. Perhaps more significantly, and this can't be compensated for by selecting "Quality", is the frame rate increase under DX10. My frame rate is 50 - 100% higher under DX10 preview. That's right, DOUBLE.

I personally use it with addons I know it works well. Selecting quality option is not going to compensate, but it is correct issue he has got, if that is his problem to begin with. poor cockpit textures and unreadable scrolling text is problem with mip-map.

Yes you are correct thank you for that. Not so much for FSX as I like the DX10 anyway but more for Rise of Flight which was looking horrid and I didn't know why - then when I saw your post it clicked that a few days ago I changed these graphics cards settings to try to get more speed out of RoF but I didn't realise it made the textures look so terrible. I am sure that FSX will be fine now in DX9 as well although I haven't tried it. I actually like flying around the scenery in FSX more than trying different planes so DX10 not being compatible isn't too much of an issue for me. But its a shame MS couldnt be bothered to correct the FSX deficiencies before they started work on MS Flight. I am doubtful whether I will be buying the new title considering how they left FSX so unfinished. Apart from the fact I have my doubts as to how realistic it actually will be - nice graphical screenshots mean nothing. Several games licences have been completely ruined lately by dumbing them down to widen the audience (Silent Hunter 5 for one). And if they are making an internet accessible game that may mean a constant internet access is required to play - another reason I wouldn't buy it.
