First, I apologize cuz I'm about to ruffle some feathers here, but, you only have yourselves to blame!!!! Everyone who spent $50+ for each new version of this Hollywood shooter, everyone who pre-orderred or camped-out to be the first to play each new version, every rave review and gushing comment, every wannabe clone and ridiculous sales stat were all saying the same thing - hey, this must be what gamers want. There are even some on these forums (a "simulation" forum) who praised this arcade fragfest as being the greatest franchise ever!! This isn't rocket science folks - money talks and the hundreds of millions of dollars spent on CoD spoke very loudly to Activision. This ELITE pay service is just Activision seeing how much the hordes are willing to spend....and you can bet EA would/will do the same thing with the BF franchise if it ever sees numbers like the CoD franchise has!!
Again, I apologize for my comments, they are NOT directed at any single individual. I hope there are enough gamers like you who won't give ELITE a try, but I fear there are too many out there who will so Activision will have no reason to change their formula.
EDIT: silly me, looks like EA isn't going to wait:
"Electronic Arts has launched its own digital gaming platform called Origin, where consumers can buy and download EA titles, as well as games from EA Partners. More than 150 titles are available from launch today, and the company notes that it will be adding many more titles in the coming months, including exclusive limited edition copies of upcoming EA titles. Noteworthy games coming to the service include limited edition versions of Battlefield 3 and FIFA 12. EA has also confirmed that the digital download version of Star Wars: The Old Republic will be exclusively available via Origin."
