Did you get to sit in it, Harry? I managed to and thoroughly enjoyed the upper gunner's goldfish bowl, I must say (moreso than the bomb aimer's position, actually). Splendid view, but you did feel rather exposed with all that protective metal plating around you (=none!). Not that the fuselage is of any protective value, either. No wonder bomb aimers sometimes flew with tin hats over their knackers as they lay down, for all the good that would do..

The upper gunner sat on what is little more than a thin leather strap hanging between two hooks for 12 hours at a time. Blimey!

Bader, yes and I agree about the Bomb aimers position, best seat/prone seat in the house.

The upper gunners seat is pretty comfortable, but you have to make sure the hooks are done up properly first or you'd look a bit of an idiot if you almost fell out ...

I can't imagine sitting there at -30 for 8 hours scanning the skies for a nacht jadger...
