I have the A2A accusim spitfire, expensive, the addon alone almost costs as much as cliffs of dover.
However it is a world apart. I have made a video of starting the mk1a full cem in cliffs

and I have made a video of starting the A2A mk1a in FSX

And finally flying around in the mk1a in FSX Listen to that merlin roar

Here is the A2A Simulations Wings of Power 3 Spitfire with Accusim product page.

This Spitfire is a very recent release and has only been out for few months now. It benefits from the experience gained by A2A's four earlier Accusim products, all of which are highly regarded among FSX users because of their ground-breaking innovations. Far and away, this is my first recommendation.

My second recommendation is the RealAir Spitfire pack. Its systems modeling is based on the stock FSX coding so it is not nearly as complex as the full A2A Accusimmed Spitfire package, but overall it is a nicely constructed and entertaining product. You might want the RealAir Spitfires simply to round out your collection since you get two different Marks and neither are already covered by the A2A Simulations product. (There is a rumor that A2A Simulations will release more Spitfires in the near future though, probably Mk. Vs and possibly Mk. IXs.)

Yeah, got 'em both and yeah, the A2A Spit is the better of the two. But as Skycat said, the Realair Spits are still a good product. It is a few years older, after all. Originally made for FS9, but brought up to FSX standards very nicely.
With A2A you will get complex and realistic engine management and the whole Accusim experience.. You'll almost think that you can really fly a Spitfire by the time you're done.
With Realair you'll get the Spit 9 and 14, plus a terrific World War Two airfield with Spits taking off and landing and Spitfires taxiing around the field. It's one of my favorite places to fly from, and I operate most of my WW2 stuff from there. I wish every military airplane came with an airfield!

I just got A2A Spitfire & accusim. I have TIR3 with vector. Three major annoyances so far. First I cannot adjust FOV in the 3D cockpit. I can zoom in or out if I pause TIR but soon as I reactivate TIR the cockpit view returns to the default. Second, FSX starts with all the switches set to on so all I need to do is press the starter. This seems self defeating since I thought the whole idea of the A2A Spifire module was that the user would start with all switches set to off in order to go through the complete runup. Third, I am unable to force vsynch in the Nvidia CP so I have lots of tearing. Is there a way around these "problems"?

In regards to the engine start; you have to select accusim modual, then select cold start. I'm not sure if there is a setting to force that state by default.

Can't answer the other questions at the moment as I am not at home to check my setup.

Tell,

You can make 'cold start' the default state for all FSX aircraft by starting or creating a flight (the default FSX flight will be fine for this), then powering off all the switches, etc. once the sim loads. Save the flight at this point, making sure to check the box for "make this the default flight."

Similarly, you can select Cold Start when you load the A2A Spitfire, then save that flight. You don't have to set it as the default; I have a few custom scenarios for my AccuSim airplanes that start me at out at my favorite airfields in front of specific hangars or parking spots.

Thx for the responses. After some research it looks as tho DX10 preview may be part of the reason vsync doesn't work. Everthing runs so smoothly with it on so I guess I am just stuck with the tearing. With a 580 GTX GPU temps are constantly <45 degrees. I have now got the cold start issue taken care of by reading the manuals. WinkNGrin The TIR3 FOV seems fixed so maybe the youtube vids are not really using it to get their wide FOV, bummer.

What kind of framerate hit does the A2A spit have on the minimal to mid-range PC?

If you mean my vids, I had the aspect ratio set to widescreen in the cfgwhich gives almost a fisheye, have since gone back to normal as it looked a bit unrealistic and the canopy window in the spit is a bit glitchy in wideangle

BadBud, I detect minimal, if any, fps hits with A2A stuff, including the Spit.

I have an old laptop, and other than a texture lag when jumping back into the cockpit from an outside view (which I have with all A2A aircraft), maybe 1/2 to 3/4 of a second?, everything is very smooth.

Specs:
Quote:
Processor Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 2.26GHz
Windows Vista OS Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit with SP1
Hard Drive 320GB (7200RPM)
Screen Size 15.6" HD (1366x768)
RAM 4GB DDR2 667Mhz
Optical Drive DVD SuperMulti with Light Scribe
Direct Disc Labeling Yes
Graphics Card NVIDIA 9800M GS with 512MB GDDR3 VRAM

BTW, here is a "tweak" site that has worked WONDERS for myself and others in FSX. Best thing is it's automatic. Bojote's Tweaking and Tuning Tool for FSX

It's really magic, I went from stutters and unflyable to smooth as silk!
