I will! I've got to save up the dough first. Sager looks promising. I might be able to get something tasty for about $1,500 U.S.

Howdy! I posted here a while ago about whether I would be able to run RoF on the laptop I currently have. I downloaded the demo, and, unfortunately, I couldn't run the game very well at all.

I've been reading up on PCs, and I've decided I'm going to build my own desktop gaming computer. I've never done it, but I think I will be able to figure it out.

Anyway, here is the build I've decided on for my budget. Do you think it will run RoF okay?

AMD Phenom II x4 955 Black Edition CPU
ASUS M4A88T-V EVO USB3 AMD 880G Socket AM3 Motherboard
EVGA GeForce GTX 550Ti Video Card
Corsair 4GB DDR3 RAM
Cooler Master 650W Power Supply
Seagate Barracuda 1 TB Hard Drive
Windows 7 Home Premium Operating System
Thermaltake V3 Black Edition Mid Tower Case

I've been ordering the parts bit by bit, with each new paycheck. So far, I have the CPU and motherboard.

Thanks

It may not run on absolute maximum settings , but it will run very well! I run it on C2D 2.66Mhz, 2Gb RAM, 460 GTX - couple settings on medium and everything else on high. The most important thing for ROF is processor, it really needs a good quad or i5- your choice seems to be ok in that.

If you can trim a little off some of the other components (besides CPU and motherboard) or save a bit more, it might be worth the extra $100 for an nVidia GTX 560ti based card. Something to look into anyways.

Thank you, Borsch and Aero!

Aero, I think I will take your suggestion and splurge on the GTX 560Ti.

By the way, what does "Ti" stand for?

I'm getting my parts, bit by bit! I should have all of the components by October, I hope.

Thanks again.

All right, it is four months later. I have just built my first machine! Remarkably, it worked the first time I turned it on. No one was more astounded than my wife.

Anyway, here are my specs. They're pretty much the same as I posted back in September:

AMD Phenom II x4 955 Black Edition CPU
ASUS M4A88T-V EVO USB3 AMD 880G Socket AM3 Motherboard
EVGA GeForce GTX 550Ti Video Card
Corsair 4GB DDR3 RAM
Cooler Master 650W Power Supply
Seagate Barracuda 1 TB Hard Drive
Windows 7 Home Premium Operating System
Cooler Master Storm Scout case (I like the handle!)

I'm going to download the ROF demo and see what happens. Wish me luck.

Your card is a bit better than mine and our CPU is about the same and I have no issues on mid to high settings. You could use more RAM tho'.

Keep in mind the "demo" is really the full featured game w/ only two flyable a/c. So if that works you are good to go.

@LennyCP, please tell us you're not using the keyboard to fly, huh?

If all works out for you, welcome to the best flight sim community going.

Ha! No, I've got a CH Products ProThrottle and FighterStick, as well as TrackIR. I tried the sim last night. I must like it, because I was up until one o'clock. It is a LOT harder than Il-2, or maybe I'm more used to Il-2.

I agree with a lot of things that Dart wrote in his review. The sound is amazing. I stuck my virtual head out beyond the windscreen and got a real blast of air.

It is also frustrating, because even the novice AI are lighting me up like a Christmas tree. That said, I think I'm in love.

I find myself drawn to the Fokker Eindekker and the Nieuport 11. For some reason, I always prefer the earlier aircraft in a given conflict.

What will purchasing more RAM do? I remember reading that it is an inexpensive way to upgrade.
