Part deux (final) of their GT5 review is out:


I agree with their review for the most part, especially the late career grind (doing the same events repeatedly)... hearing Darin talk big about how much time he spent with it makes me feel like I must be an addicted gamer or something since I think I spent more time by myself than the 3 of them together spent on it.

Pros and cons list was pretty good, but they missed one of my main cons which was the menus, and a favorite pro which is how well modeled Nordschleife is, overall great game for a newbie to the consoles like me, I'm glad I bought a PS3 for this, it's been worth it and I look forward to Forza4 taking it up another notch hopefully.

Thanks for the post. I watched the review last night.

I think the praises and comments about GT5 in the review were honest. I do not think they talked about multiplayer either? Or did i miss that bit? behindcouch
(cannot find an "embarrassed smiley" either...need more coffee!!!!)

I think they mentioned the multiplay improvements from one of the patches in their "pitstop" segment either in this review or another episode I'm not positive, it will be interesting to see what they think of Shift2, hopefully they review it on the PC where they can use the dinput8.dll lag removal mod.

I've had GT5 for a month now and really enjoy the driving physics with all the aids off and the wheel "simulation" option enabled. It's fun to just go turn laps in different cars.

I really don't like the ultra-slow progression through the game and having to unlock stuff or buy cars as I seemingly earn $0.25 per race win. The B-Spec "spectator racing" mode is not my cup of tea, either.

But I've tried the game with the Logitech G25, the Fanatec PWTS/CSP and the Thrustmaster T500RS. The game's FFB code is top-drawer and makes rFactor feel a bit numb after turning laps in GT5. It could have better sensation of understeer in the FFB code and some better track bumps/imperfections, and the cars act a bit light in the rear end, but otherwise it's really good physics and FFB code.

Chunx, in your experience and after comparing the wheels/pedals, which would you say is the best bang-for-buck? :

T500RS going at 594$US (421€) delivered
G27 going at 319$US (220€) delivered
GT2 plus Clubsport going at 635$US (450€) delivered

...and part 2 of that same question, when keeping pedal/wheel modding in mind?

Yeah I agree on the B-spec, not much fun although I used it a lot to grind out prize cars and money that I could use in A-spec.

I also agree that I was pretty impressed with the physics (G27 wheel), and my main hope is that Forza4 will have similar physics improvements, I don't expect a console title to have iRacing or netkarPro physics, but it sure is fun when a console title like GT5 has believable physics that resemble real life especially for wheel users.

Also JAMF if you are making some decisions on purchasing wheels, you may want to wait a couple of weeks until E3 Expo June 7-9 is done.

I'm actually ready to order a GT2 to give me a wheel to use on PC+PS3+XBox360 (wish my G27 worked on XB360), but am holding off until E3 to see if Fanatec or any other competitors (Logitech hopefully) announce new multi platform compatible wheels to coincide with Forza4 due out this Nov.

Right, so either better wheels behind the horizon or dropping prices from new products/competition. (I luckily don't need 'Box compatibility. :))

I sure hope that if a new Gxx wheel is in development, it will keep the mod-friendly design of the current wheel(s).

Yeah totally agree, I love my G27, and actually if I end up going with the GT2, I will be using it with my modded G27 pedals (nixim mod right now as my Pastore loadcel wore out).

My biggest hope for E3 is for a new Gxx Logi wheel with multiplatform support or for Thrustmaster to announce Xbox360 support for the T500, but it is good to have the GT2 option as a fallback as well now that Fanatec seem to be sorting out their quality and support issues that originally kept me from ordering it in Dec.

Just a couple of more weeks to go and I will finally get to make a decision and spend the new wheel budget I've had set aside since last Dec :-)
