One question I did have though...isn't passing in the pits illegal?

Early in the race I was going a touch below max allowed (~ 70m / 112k) in the pits as I had gone around the track nursing a missing wing and bent steering rack and knew I had slightly diminished controll...but omeone else came around me and hit the brakes to make their pit

Technically, no penalty, as long as the driver(s) don't exceed the pit lane speed limit.

Can't recall who it was, but I saw someone fly past a couple of cars to the left side of cars that were about to pit. Not good. If someone wants to go around someone in pit lane, it should be via the outer line that is on the track side. I didn't comment beyond the general "take it easy getting into the pits guys" since there was no contact.

Good race today, did my personal best in qualifying and I started 5th. Was running around the front for a while, but after a restart, I had the opportunity to go three wide into three but decided that would be a bad idea. I put the brakes on and caused a pile up behind me and I lost my front wing while I was watching my mirrors instead of looking where I was going. After that I was doing good, running at the front, then I decided to put my left front down on the apron and spun all by myself. After that I was really slow and had no chance of winning. Good race though, had a lot of fun.

Congratulations to Mathias, very well played sir. You're never really sure whether your fuel strategy is sound until it's too late. I was really counting on a drag to the finish with Lugnut and indeed we did but just to see who could be less of a loser. smile In retrospect, I know what I could've done differently to be nearer MK at the end but hindsight is always 20/20. How boring for the fans though to watch the leaders putt around and see who can go slowest... but that's racing.

Fuel strategy? I was wondering what you guys were doing out there smile

I went the whole race without even thinking about turning down my boost D'OH! banghead

My only strategy was to go "balls to the wall" and "keep the shiny side up" biggrin Didn't work out too well though as I was doing strange stuff in the pits. I screwed up my steering so bad hitting a wall during my last pit that I had to drive with my steering wheel at a 45 degree rotation just to keep the car straight (luckily only for a lap or two at the end).

So for this fuel strategy stuff, do you guys keep a calculator handy beside you while you’re driving??? I’m not too good at math when I’m going 235 miles and hour.

Tons of fun tho ... looking forward to the next one.

Congrats Matthias.

It's just a matter of knowing (roughly) how much fuel you're burning per lap and calculating from there.

In the SCES races I generally tape a little note to the side of my monitor with how much fuel I should have at the completion of each lap in a stint - that way I can look at how much I have and know how many more laps I'm going to get out of it.

So since rFactor reports totally incorrect fuel per lap predictions, I should just take the amount of fuel I have and divide it by fuel burn per lap taking into account the boost coefficient while gambling on yellow flags and predicting other driver's strategies? Oh ya, I can do that in my head while trying not to crash no problemo biggrin

Sim racing veterans crack me up biggrin

I knew I was burning about 1.4G per lap at boost 1, and I'd calculated boost 4 to be roughly 1. I'd figured that all out in practice.

So pitting with 20 laps to go, having 22G of fuel, I ran it at 4. I just waited too long to kick it back up to 1. biggrin

You can also do practice runs with the motec plugin and review the data afterward for accurate fuel readings.
