Rumor (based on "leaked slide") AMD Bulldozer will be publicly revealed in early June (possibly June 7). Also included are motherboards based on the new 9xx chip set -- it is implied some motherboards will be on sale in June. Several other new AMD products are slated for formal introduction in June, it is rumored. June = Big AMD Month.

In the mean time, Phenom II prices and other AMD CPU prices have been cut substantially -- in order to clear the shelves of current stock, it is rumored. Seems to have happened in the last couple days at Newegg for a couple models. Price reductions are supposed to range from 2 percent to 25 percent depending on the CPU. Still, Newegg has not reduced enough prices to convince me, yet smile

I did not expect Bulldozer until late Summer or early Fall. But, rumors have been that AMD was trying to move up the launch -- for obvious competitive reasons. Older rumors were saying May. So, June is not unbelievable.

Thing is, will this be merely an announcement, or a paper launch, or a hard launch of product in June? We'll see smile

The "Enthusiast" AMD Bulldozer is an all new architecture (not a Phenom evolution), 8 core CPU (there are also 6 core and 4 core versions). It emphasizes integer operations as does Intel -- which makes it more competitive with Intel in most games and applications -- typically, games and applications are programmed around Intel strengths and weaknesses. Nonetheless, Bulldozer 8 Core has 4x 128b floating point units of considerable FP power. It is made on the 32nm process which is inherently faster than the Phenom II process.

In a nutshell, all the changes are supposed to make it compete with Intel clock for clock and exceed Intel CPU absolute performance in some applications. However, until it is formally released and we see test data, we don't know anything but rumors and a very limited amount of test results.

The retail price of Bulldozer will be a factor. Many expect it to continue the AMD performance/price lead (which is shrinking). But, we'll see.

Bulldozer is something that AMD fans are looking forward to buying. If it proves as good as some rumors suggest and the price is right, it may lure some Intel users as well smile

Tuesday in four weeks time. I hope the 'Dozer will go over 5GHz on air and strong competition in both price and performance. That will benefit us all. smile

Hope the rumor about 8 core Bulldozer being in the i7-2600K price range turns out to be fact. First semi-concrete price rumor I've read.

If the rumored performance is there, that price would make it a no-brainer for an AMD fan with a few extra dollars to spare smile

Anyone knows a good site to get some good dope on Bulldozer?
If you do please post a link. I've been to several sites but, i'm searching for info
from people who actually review these things for a living.
Thanks

Jaeger

P.S. I know it's not on the market yet.

Regarding actual performance -- no smile

All there is regarding actual performance is a few sentences spread here and there. I do not believe some rumors. That's why I merely summarize in my posts -- trying not to over or under sell the thing. Bulldozer should be "competitive" at 32nm -- what "competitive" ultimately means we will not find out until after June 7 (unless there is a major leak).

The Bulldozer architecture has been discussed in detail by more than one "professional" site. For example,

Bulldozer Architecture

Note in the article that Bulldozer will have the AVX instructions (that make for blistering video processing). Also, 8 integer cores (with 4 shared Floating Point units) provide a boost over Intel's 4 cores with hyperthreading. But, as with ATI and Nvidia GPU shaders, Intel cores and Bulldozer cores are two different things now. AMD is aiming for a "balanced design" -- same thing they do with GPUs.

I consider articles like this to be a "rumor" as there are no doubt inaccuracies. We don't know what we have until the hardware is on the street.

Allen,
thanks for the info,
If it is as good as we hope it'll be then, even though i went intel this time after more
than 20+ years with AMD, I'll buy it on G.P.

Today, I see some good reductions at Newegg. The standout is the Phenom II 955 X4 (that many OC to 4.0GHz) for only $125 -- It was going $150 not long ago, then dropped to $138 last week, now $125. The 965 and others are also dropping.

These low prices are giving credence to the idea that some form of Bulldozer is coming relatively soon. The advertised AMD plan is to replace all the Phenom IIs with new architecture CPUs by the end of the year -- possibly beginning relatively soon (in June??). Anyhow, this is what happened to HD5xxx prices just before the HD6xxx hit the market.

Incidentally, the rumors place the upcoming new architecture "cheap" AMD CPUs as clear winners in their category -- very cost effective. But, at SimHQ, we don't buy no cheap CPUs smile

Don't post stuff out of context:

http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/news/video/nvidia-market-leader-q1-2011/

Nvidia sales are down compared to the previous year, but still in the lead.
