The first major patch for Shogun 2 is finally to be released this coming Monday. This is referred to as patch 2, but my game still shows as version 1.00. There have been other previous updates/patches, but mostly fixes to multiplayer. I'm told that these so called hot-fixes have resulted in changes to the build number, so I have no clue what the developer's exact nomenclature system is.

Of course This will automatically be applied through Steam.

Along with adding the DX11 and AA capabilities that were missing at release, there are just over 200 othr listed other bug fixes and improvements included. The decriptions of some are just cyrptic enough to me that I'm not sure exactly what they fix.

Anyway, here is a link for those interested:

PATCH

If you haven't logged on to Steam yet, the new patch will start when you do. It's about 2 gigs, which means there must be some new content also. I know there is at least one new unit in the Encyclopedia titled "Warrior nuns". Seriously! What's next? I'm hoping for Yari flying monkeys--LOL.

I guess some of it is connected with DLC that will be offered shortly--for an extra fee, of course. That's pretty much the business plan for developers these days.

Anyway, the game now takes up a whopping 18 gigs of hard drive space--not including whatever is stored with Steam. It's kind of amazing when one thinks about the first game of Shogun, which was just less than a gig of data before the Mongol Expansion. I'm glad now that I opted for a 1 TB hard drive when I got my new system back in 2009

After the download, I fired up a couple of custom battles, and with the new DX11 stuff enabled (including AA) I was quite amazed to see that my frame rates actually seemed to have increased. I had heard this might be the case with the new API, but was still surprised.

Well, off to fight me some Samurai's now, or maybe those warrior nun's if I can find em'.

Cheers

I just started playing this - and this is just as addicting as Rome Total War. I sat down around 12 and realized that it's 1800. Excellent game. And AI kicks my butt in very human like manner. A must buy for Total War fans.

I concur entirely. If there is anyone left who is "on the fence" with this one.. get off it, its excellent.

Just got Shogun 2. I'm VERY impressed. Extremely fun to play and I'm very impressed by the DX11 graphics. No more A-10C and Arma2 for me for a while. The expansion of my ninja clan is what matters now smile

I enjoyed RTW but got bored as hell with Empire Total War. Is this one different enough to buy?

I honestly felt Shogun 2 was a rather weak entry in the Total War series. It is too easy. It doesn't take much to build a solid army and then financially turn the corner and the game is essentially over at that point. when you aren't in dire straits financially you can make more and more armies and just sweep across the map.

Also I understand why but there isn't a lot of unit variation in Shogun. I hope the next entry is Medieval III since TW:ME2 could have been great but the diplomacy AI was broken.
