F1 banned active suspension for the 1994 season at the Montreal race in 1993....in a Stewards Bulletin released by Charlie Whiting. Hydraulic compnenents, which formed part of the active suspension systems, were deemed "moveable aerodynamic devices", which had been banned previously by the FIA.
It was brought up in the trial in Italy of Williams/Head in Senna's death that he would have not crashed if active suspension was still allowed. Due to it's ban, Williams hastily built an unworthy race car...or something along those lines.
The first full season that active suspension, applied to the term we're all thinking, was 1987 by Lotus in the 99T.
