RAF pilots in the BoB commonly displayed kill-markings!

Bob Doe - 19 Squadron on Spitfires in BoB: "I found that my ground crew had started painting little swastikas on the side of my plane...and this was really rather nice"

Obviously Stanford Tuck and other famous aces including pioneer of Wasp Insignia (his name escapes me) who added another black band to the wasp to represent each kill.

Watch The Battle of Britain, 1969 film which has faithfully replicated paintschemes to represent specific aircraft - kill markings common...

Official RAF policy had little to say on the matter during the battle but it is true that some pilots such as 'Salor' Malan were known to be highly contemptuous of score-chasing.
