Guys,

Have you ever wanted to jump into a really big robot. Shoot big guns. Stomp on things smaller than you...... Well you may just want to look at mechwarrior 4

www.mektek.net

How many of you know that Mechwarrior 4 is free. How many of you have tried it?

Why am i writing this?

Well basically i stumbled across this not long ago. And quite frankly it is still a great game and it is being developed and supported by a loyal community. And well, its bloody good fun.

The bad bits..

Installation may be a pit finicky but the mektek installer will sort that out for you and patch you to latest version.
AVG and norton may show false positives.
Online connection can be a bit finicky but loads of fun when you get in there.
Single player campaign has a bug in it not letting you progress (a long way into campaign) this is being looked at.

The good bits.

Big stomping mechs with big guns.
New upgrade to game (mechpak 4) being worked on for release soon.
A new hi res patch has been released for better visuals.
Fun immersive game with both advanced and simple game play modes. (E.g. advanced radar, heat management, limited ammo etc.)
Jump jets - - - - ohhh how we like Jump jets.

Lots of different maps.

------------------------

So why am i posting this. Well its a wonderful game dispite a few problematic issues and its being supported by a very dedicated team who have worked for years on this improving it. Its free (so the price is right). It is a hefty download though.

However, the cash pile to keep mektek and their servers running is drying up. So if you want to give it a go, get in and try it out before it goes, and if you like what you see and want to support their efforts, that would be greatly appreciated.

In any event, its a game that should try regardless especially for free. Even if you just turn up to say hi on their forums.

Bogus Out

Is this the Mechwarrior mod that needs Crysis to run?
I bought Crysis just to play it.

**Edit** I got the wrong game I think.

Thanks for the link,I will check it out.

G'day chucky

No its not the crysis mod. That is called Mechwarrior Living Legends. This is the Original game (mechwarrior 4 from quite a few years back) and microsoft have agreed to distribute it for free.

Mektek, have been working on it improving game play since then. So its not a mod but the full game.

Definitely worth a look.

I didn't know this ever got finally released, good to hear.
What MP game types? Anything objective based like Chromehounds with no respawns or is it all deathmatch?

There can be objective gameplay maps (i.e. infiltrate base and destroy various buildings)

There are also standard deathmatch servers. Mainly under the following guises
NHUA - No heat management unlimited ammo (for when you don't need to worry about heat and can outfit your mech with all the goodies it can take)
HOLA - Heat management on Limited ammo (for those who like a more strategic game where you need to think about the load out on your mech.

You also have tonnage restrictions, advanced radar - not advanced radar.

So if want to get a little pre mech action prior to the long awaited Mechwarrior 5 (yet to be confirmed) then this is what you are after.

Easiest way is to install MTX client.

This is their own work and it will download, install and patch MW4 for you.

What a ridiculous thing to say.

No it will not look like that.

Hawken is not even released yet. (brand new game) - MW4 is available now
MW4 is free - Hawken will not be.
Hawken - though it does look very interesting has uber fast twitch movements where MW4 has the feel of big lumbering mechs.

So - Mw4 is not hawken, but its available now and free.

Looks like the Hawken Mechs are smaller than the Mechwarrior ones.more like mobile battlesuits..Urban combat looks great.

I played the crap out of MW4 about 2 years ago when mektek put out their stuff. Very dated graphics, but still fun.

Especially interesting if one is familiar with the Battletech universe.

I,m sort of a Mech newbi but enjoyed playing it lately.Yes the graphics are a bit dated but a good base for some serious modding.Mech designs are awesome, just need Greebling out more and the cockpits filled out a lot more.Terrain is rather bland though but models are great of buildings, turrets etc..
