I'm at the end of my patience here, and would be grateful if anyone has discovered a workaround for this issue. I have seen it mentioned once or twice very briefly in searches, but my hardware is so common I find it hard to believe that many other people aren't having the same problem. And that they are getting past it somehow. I'll mention what I've tried below in case anyone is interested in what DOESN'T work, heh. Thanks.

Intel Core 2 Duo in a stress tested system
Nvidia 8800 GTS
Win7 64bit and WinXP 32bit (dual boot, I've tried installing F4AF on both OS's)
.13 F4AF patch
Fly Any Plane - ON (but I'm actually only flying F-16's)

----------------------------------------------------------------

Tried with and without HiTiles, AA both off and on, tried both HAL and HAL T&L in both installs, tried flying lower and at different bank and approach angles etc., tried with -hires disabled, tried updating video drivers, tried disabling shadows, tried using default Nvidia Cpanel settings (let program control), and I even tried blind locking targets. But the lock locations seem to be corrupt when this is happening too. I dunno...

Edit: I tried going back to the same site I was having trouble with before (Mostar EW radar site, Balkans campaign) from a new game install, and at a new time. And I had better luck with objects not completely glitching out for an entire bombing run. So maybe this has something to do with weather? Clouds were close both times, however not obscuring the site itself. But the TGP display was still not operating perfectly. Another guess is these troubles might have something to do with the site being on a mountain? Anyway...

My laser was only activating (flashing L) about 1 in 5 bombing runs. And then for just the last second or two. And the laser firing setting (UF Controls > List > (0)Misc > (5)Lsr) is non-functional. So laser guided bombing is totally borked right now in F4AF irregardless of anything else. My guess on this one? The firing time is working strictly off of sea level altitude, and not the altitude of the actual target.

I've had it. Maybe I'll check back in in a few months, but I don't think F4AF is being worked on anymore? So I'm not hopeful. And I do know that I can just program in exact coordinates and hit targets CCRP bombing anyway. But LGB is such a major system, I think my immersion will be ruined if I can't use it. So...

Edit 2: Reading my own post gave me an idea. And it worked. CHANGE YOUR ALTIMETER SETTING TO 'RADAR ALT' only (vs. baro or auto), and you can overcome the laser firing bug with targets that are considerably above sea level.

Also the laser will not fire above 25,000 feet either.

Uhm, another thing I have (now) noticed is that INS coordinate CCRP bombing will be inaccurate against ground targets located at very high elevations. So that's another favorite method out the window. I'm thinking I'll have to go CCIP against these, or maybe the AGM-65G missile could work against some of them.

And thanks very much Panther. That very brief (and undocumented!) fact about the laser not firing above 25,000ft cleared up a lot. I.E - I thought I had this particular problem licked, but then I was having more trouble again. Now I know why.

Vortex - I also had similar problems with the laser and the LGB. Friends from polish forum http://92.60.132.84/ ~ Apache / smf / index.php advised me that probably the AF implemented a phenomenon not only damage to the laser at high altitude (high-voltage spark in the very thin air) but also the phenomenon of laser overheating running more than a few seconds.
Since then, I always light a laser hand for a few seconds before impact, and disable it immediately after impact.

Thanks for trying to help Piorun. And sorry it's taken me a while to get back to you. But I needed time to check things out.

As far as the laser not firing before impact (even if changing the delay settings), I'm fairly certain my problem was with trying to drop above 25Kft altitude. But nevertheless, I'm arming now as you suggested. If only for roleplaying realism if nothing else.

As for targets in mountains glitching out almost completely in my TGP display (nothing helps with this, except sometimes it will resolve when trying another run), or occasionally even targets on flat land becoming obscured by "fog" (banking my wings will fix this one, but it's a pain to do) - I've asked my multiplayer buddies if they have the same issue. And they say no. So I assume it probably has something to do with my Nvidia 8800 GTS video card. Oh well. I just line the pod up as best I can at long range before the glitch happens, drop blind when the time comes, and I usually will hit. But it is a real pisser when I do miss because of this...
