Hey There,

I was just wondering what would perform better for my simming experience (I'm a flight sim addict).

My current setup is a liquid cooled I7 975 Extreme, Asus Rampage III Extreme, 24G Corsair Dominator GT, Twin Raptor 600meg's Raid 0 short stroked to 300 on Sata II, Single GTX 580, Corsair 1200w power supply, Win 7 64. (warthog, cougar mfd's, ch pedals, 50" samsung display)

Current setup is just a game (sim) rig and runs fine but I was wondering if I would gain anything switching to a sata III setup.

THX for any replys.

SATA-III only really benefits SSDs, as HDDs are limited by the mechanics of the drive itself.

As SkateZilla says +2, especially on that board.

Read Nick N.'s stuff on the Flight1 board, again especially in re. to "built-in" SATA let alone anything like the Marvell thats on the X58 for sata3.
I run two WD Black 64Mb Cache 640 sata2's and I get consistant 190 reads and 150-140 writes on the ICH10 in RAID0. YMMV. I do know that using Marvell for "some" solid state drives is a no-no, and that particular company supplies my own OS drive so I tend to listen to them. Also, the benchies that I could find didn't show more than a marginal (10% at best) increase on a spinner solution let alone any ssd at the moment. My personal advice would be to get a set of either VRaps or Black64Mb's and enjoy. My SSD does 280 reads and 180+ writes reliably in both HDTune and ATTO, but the reality is that the spinners do 190 and 150 ATM and that's where the sweet spot is for that board/cpu, not to mention the wallet.
