Well I am done with my X-52 stick mod.
Thanks to Sokol1 for the initial inspiration back in 06 that prompted my to mod my X-45
by gutting the stick and mounting it to the throttle since I only used the stick as a button bay anyway.. Thanks to R_Target.. who sent me an old X-52 stick that he wasn't using.. and 99th_Obsidian who gave me his stick initially when I started this little project and DD_Crash who pointed me in the right direction as far as replacing the hall sensors with pots.
Below are some tidbits in case someone else is considering this. Remember.. IL2 will recognized up to 4 controllers.. so my setup consists of a MSFFB2/X-52/Saitek Pedals/TIR3 config. I found the X-52 much easier to work with because it was more modular.
X-52... What's in that stick?!!
The Hall sensors
The Hall Sensors are nice and all.. but unless you are using the stick as a stick.. pots work better. If you decide to replace the hall sensors with pots just get any linear 20k-50k pot but you cannot wire it like the rudder pot or like the hall sensors are wired. Use the same connections for the hall sensors on the board. See the picture below and follow the instructions there to get the wiring right. Just remember that the connections are kind of fragile. Needless to say I did this 4 times before I got it right. If you turn the pots and the lights blink out.. you git it wrong. When all is said and done you should be able to go to the control panel and when you turn each pot the cursor should move along it's perspective axis.
Here is the final product.. well... almost final.. I took this pic a few days ago.. I have since used duct tape and velcro to tie it all together. I may do something else to cosmetically improve it.. but it is fully fucntional now. I also took out my brand spanking new MSFFB2 that I have had in it's box since 2004. I got it when I worked part time at Best Buy when I heard that MS was dropping them.. I have retired my FFB2 that I had been using since 2002 as a backup.. and I actually still have my original one as well..
