I made the move to Win7 64bit a few months back and wonder if you guys have found some useful and verified tweaks that speed up the system and free up resources for gaming...or is that even needed anymore?

I remember doing tons of tweaks to XP to get it slimmed down and gamer friendly.

Get rid of the aero desktop at least, customize the effects how you want. It can still look nice even without the full aero transparent effect. Or go all the way performance to looking like Win98. Frees up a decent amount of memory dropping aero, but Win7 doesn't benefit quite as much as Vista did since it's already more efficient. Otherwise, processing priority goes to the app you're working with at the forefront, so you shouldn't have to manually assign cpu priority.

Old thread, but I'd recommend TCP Optimizer from speedguide for network boosts -- helpful if you do any multiplayer.

Be sure to make an image before you mess with services. IIRC, Viper includes also a .reg entry to restore them to defaults. Better to make your own as well.
