I have the Demo installed. Looks good. How do I get the hat switch to pan instead of mouse?

Thanks

Sam

When you click on the Rise of Flight shortcut, before you hit the Start button in the menu, go to the Camera tab. At the bottom, where it says "Cockpit view: default mode", set it to "pan view."

Thanks for your reply and help. Still no joy. I did as you said and it still won't pan. Obviously I am missing something simple. All I get when I hit the hat switch is head movement either right or left. Now it will pan with the mouse.

Thanks again

Sam

Does the game work with a hat switch? I can't seem to get it to pan. My CH stick hat works ok in other games. In the assignment window it shows POV but won't pan.

I have the Demo and have an interest in maybe getting full version but no go if I can't get it to work with my CH stick.

Any more help?

Thanks

Sam

When you are in a cockpit, press F9. Then test again. If it still doesn't work, press F9 again etc.

F9 is the key to switch between different view modes.

Looking around with the hat swtich will get you killed in this sim. Never had a problem using hat switches until Rise Of Flight.
It's not that you can't use them, or that they don't work. It's just that, in the close quarters fighting of 1918 French skies, the hat swtiches just don't work fast enough. You can't track an enemy airplane with it. You will lose him quickly and as the old fighter pilot saying goes.."Lose sight, lose fight!"
I have a Saitek X42. I was getting butchered with it, on line. It has rudder controls on the throttle handle.
I realized that if I was going to survive, it was gonna be, get track ir, or use the mouse! I chose the cheaper of the two alternatives. Naturally, to use the mouse I needed to free up my left hand. So I broke out my old Logitech, Freedom 2.4 Cordless Joystick. It has a twist grip for the rudder control. I could do all my flying with my right hand. And my left hand was freed to use the mouse look.
Works for me. Very well, as a matter of fact. I finally started to get kills. You can look around VERY fast with the mouse. You might want to look into this. If you use the hat switch on-line, you're going to find it quite frustrating. At least, I did.

Afaik, atleast 3 of the 5 best pilots in ROF use hat switch.

Hat switch is excellent, if you got/get used to it.

I prefer TrackIR/Freetrack, because it's just one thing that makes things more "realistic". I'm not saying that you can't become pretty good with mouseview or TrackIR though. But saying that hat switch will get you killed in ROF is absolutely not true. Quite the contrary.

You can set snapview and panning speed in the Camera tab of the ROF Settings.

I also learned to use the mouse with my left hand back my online days with IL-2. After a week or so, I was wondering why people believe you are supposed to use it with the right hand. Even for office tasks, I find it much more comfortable to type with my right hand and use the mouse with my left.

My stick is an old MS Sidewinder that has a twist grip and a "Shift" button. This allows me to assign 2 functions to every button: e.g. hatswitch for snapviews and Shift + hatswitch for head movement. Works a treat smile
