Very, very nice ! These shots are so heavily edited they hardly look like they're from Il-2 anymore - but I really like the result !

What is the general method ? Do you cut parts out of Il-2 screenshots, edit them and paste them back together ? Do you have some before/after shots ?

Cheers

Nico

Hi there VonBarb. I'm pleased you like the screenies. Here are a couple of raw screenshots before editing.

Generally, I use the screenshot as a background layer, right at the bottom of the layer stack. On top of that I put a white fill "paper" layer with the opacity lowered so I can see the screenshot beneath. Then the process involves working on groups of layers to deal with the various components of the picture. The background and internals/cockpit tend to come towards the bottom of the layer stack, the fusilage in the middle and the foreground and shade/highlights on top.

I use the pen tool and "make selection" to create the various shapes based on the screenshot and then fill them with either the paintbucket tool or the gradient tool. Finally, I bring the "paper" layer back up to full capacity and flatten it all.

Thanks for looking Nico and happy simming.

So you are basically just using the screenshots as guides, and the end result is entirely just your work ? Impressive ! I suppose the whole process must very very time consuming ?

Very nice work. Please keep posting them when you have more !

Cheers

Nico

Hello again VonBarb.

Yes, in a nutshell, the screenshots are a guide - so much so that I would hesitate to call the finished product all my work

I wouldn't call the process time consuming. One can do quite a bit quite quickly in the right frame of mind.

Here's one I did some years ago now. The original image was a handphone photo of a Revel kit bodged together by my Dad, but the process was the same.
