I've been alternating between III and 4, they are both good, of course 4 has better graphics and some things work better. SHIII is still pretty damned good. Loaded GWX gold, and I started a VIIB career in U-53. My first patrol was somewhat of a bust, only sank 3 ships for 8K tons or so. One of those was a Tribal class destroyer that was anchored in the Shetlands. Terrible weather almost throughout the cruise, no gun use at all.

#2 I have bagged 30K of shipping so far, 2 10K merchants and 2 5K. 2 with deck gun and 2 with torps, love being able to use the gun. The last 2 were in convoy, set up on 2 big merchants, bagged the closest at less then 1k meters range, but the other I missed as I overestimated speed, but the 2 eels found a smaller ship in the farthest column, so the shots weren't wasted. I do like the "point and shoot" way that you can do that with SHIII, 4 seems a lot more awkward to do quick shots like that. (I set up on one merchant, at medium range, the one that I missed, but swinging around saw the one at 1k range and quick fired a couple of eels that got it).

I really want to get into III (got it free with Cliffs of Dover) but I already have IV and V.
I know V gets a bit of a kicking but it looks the best unless you mod the hell out of IV of course.

The general trend does seem to be that each release is more buggy/unfinished. SH4 they did fix things up though, not sure what will happen with 5, don't have it (won't run on my ancient machine).

Hi chaps,

There's still a lot of life left in the old sea dog, new mods still come out, on average, every few days.

Kind regards

I looked around over there, didn't realize so much modding was still going on for SHIII, figured it was a done-deal by now. That Type VII interior mod looks pretty danged nice also (added compartments).

Hi mate,

There's a thriving modding community there, lots of really talented, knowledgeable and great folks and a really good atmosphere.

I'll post my JSGME mod list to this thread tonight.

SH3 is still VERY much alive and kicking.

Kind regards

Aces

III is very good. But I prefer to play as the Americans (I can't bring myself to be a Nazi, not even a make-pretend Nazi), so IV is my choice.

Do you even need a key code any more?
