I came across this tutorial for improving force feedback in rFactor.

http://www.racesimcentral.com/forum/showthread.php?7324-rFactor-Better-FFB-Tutorial

Here's the author's comments:
I recently got hold of a friends iRacing account because he insisted I needed to feel this "incredible" "amazing" and "realistic" Force Feedback that he and other iRacing enthusiasts have been touting on-infinitum. I had no doubt that it would be better then rFactor's as rF's age has put it at a disadvantage. I tested with every car in the account on several tracks to get a "feel" for what the iR ffb was actually doing.

I was confident in my ability to duplicate it in rF, I spent the next week searching, tweaking, tweaking and then I did some tweaking to rFactors default Controller.ini, Realfeel and Leo's FFB.

With this concoction of a modified Controller.ini, modified default RealFeel (Thanks goes to this guy's tutorial for the original modification ideas http://www.eoaa.org/phpbbforum/viewtopic.php?t=338) and the painfully difficult editing of Leo's FFB settings. I was finally able to settle and do some testing (and more tweaking).

What this FFB will do is... Well you have to feel it. You will need to adjust every car with realfeel's numpad hotkey's. With the settings the way I have them I feel every crevice and bump in the road. I can feel the brakes lock up and the steering goes numb. A locked up tire will pull the steering wheel. I can even feel the slight pressure difference on the steering as the front of the car goes up and over hills and then gently lands again.

I tried it out and it's definitely different. I don't have experience with iRacing to compare it with but it seems more responsive and more natural.

I have been using it for the past month or so. It also works very well with Leo´s FFB alone in the ILMS mod, where Realfeel feels odd.

I played with this a bit last night after Joe suggested I give RF a shot. (And yes, I do understand LeoFFB is different from straight RF)

Anyone seen a good setup for the TM 430 wheel (it's a ~300 degree wheel)? At the default settings, the wheel would oscillate rather violently at 0 mph if you tapped it. There was a note on decreasing the friction of a stopped wheel from the default of 45 if that happened. I was down to 5 and it was still happening somewhat.

At race pace, the wheel had no resistance near the center point giving a "floaty" feel down the straights. Felt pretty good in turns.

This is the first FFB device I've owned and I'm not sure how good it can really be set up or if I'm just running into its limitations.

It's very much wheel-sim dependent. Different wheels seem to generate different level and quality of FF by sim. For example, I get realtively mild FF in rFactor when I use my favorite wheel, the Logi G25. I get spectacular FF in rFactor when I use my T-Master Rallye GT Force Feedback Wheel with Clutch Pedal. It's much better than the T-Master F-430, at least with rFactor anyway. To my point, the Logi G25 is best for GTR2, but the T-Master RGT with Clutch Pedal is better with NASCAR RAcing 2003 Season. That's what I mean by it depends on the sim.

Seems like not too many people know about the T-Master RGT 2960715 with Clutch Pedal. There's a version without clutch pedal but I don't like that one.

I just bought it myself (the RGT/clutch) and it's the best FFB I've ever experienced.

Only FFB wheel I've had (of four previous) that I shove the effects to max and the strength to max or very close to it. In all sims I have.
In its price range, it's the best imho - no contest.
