Just watched this amazing film called Monsters http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1470827/ . I had heard about it ages ago and that it only had 2 proper actors and the rest of the cast were actual locals and all the background posters, signs etc were all added in post-production.

You can look at the link for the story but this to me was a breath of freash air, concentrating on the 2 characters rather than the aliens/monsters although you do see tham and they look great. It had a tiny budget of $15,000 and Gareth Edwards was Director/Writer/DP/VFX Artist!!

"Facts from the Director Q&A: -Filmed on a Sony EX3 with a Nikon 50 MM Lens -Used almost exclusively natural light except for a couple tiny LED lights for when it was pitch black -Effects were done in Adobe CS4, editing in Premiere -The majority of filming was shot with just a sound guy the director and the 2 main characters."

Anyone else come across this? Like it?

Watched this with the wife last night and we both enjoyed it too. Art house does Sci-Fi/ Romance. I didn't know anything about the film before seeing it and was pleasantly surprised by the non-Hollywood style and plot of the film. Also the two leads had great chemistry. Only fault I could find with the film is the ending was rather abrupt.

... and the daft reason why they had to go across the restricted zone.
Why not head south and get in an aeroplane? Or a boat?
Both those would avoid the infected/restricted zone by quite a distance.

They bought boat tickets but they were stolen, and later the harbour was closed. The restricted area wasn't a battle zone so they thought the risk of passing through it was acceptable.

The boat tickets were something like $5,000 - Why not spend about 10% of that on an airfare from somewhere further south?
There had to be a reason why they couldn't use an aeroplane or boat from further south but they never broached the issue.
