Help! Ive just installed 5 and it puts me way to far forward in the cockpit. I've tried changing resolution and putting seat as far back as it will go. Even tried stand alone install but nothing helps. Any suggestions?
My seating position seems ok. What I was wondering is that the installer mentioned to adjust your seat height so that you can see your rear wing in the rearview mirror. I'm not able to see the wing at any height. Anyone have this problem? I suppose Tom Cruise would
Its done the same to the other mods I had in that folder, DTM F191 and the lemans mod I wonder if it could be because I uses 4 and the update to 5 to install rather than download the whole 5 file?
Ive deleted VHR from my install and was still left with the problem so I deleted my user data folder and installed a backup. That cured the problem for the mods that I had in there that I mentioned before, so they are all back to normal. Now I decided to try deleting the user data folder in the stand alone vhr folder and putting my backup in there too. Still ended up too far forward. Both my repaired rfactor and the stand alone vhr are the same FOV so its not that either. This has got me baffled. I tried deleting the stand alone and reinstalling. During the reinstall I checked the version 4 before I added the 5 update and it was too far forward too. Only thing I can think of now is downloading the full version 5 and trying that on a stand alone.

Lugnuts: If you want to work on a Talladega setup for VHR 2011 v5, I won't worry about it, or start any real tweaks. The default VHR setup seems stable enough, but it needs some obvious changes. Haven't tried it in a draft, and not sure on tape for this version either. If your out there Rhino, ...maybe VBA_Rhino has a setup?
I think we could probably get away with running the Daytona setup from Feb. though I haven't run it in traffic yet. But just from running it solo it's easier to drive than what's on the server now.
I have a few setups laying around from other versions of VHR that I will test out tonight. We should really be able to do 205 in the draft. These new cars (in real life) are FAAAAASSSSSSSST.
So are we running 6.0? It is said to be out soon....
You're kidding, right?
looked....YGTBSM
Is there some big wart on v5 that makes it bad for our race? If anyone knows please comment. If not, the race Sunday will be on v5. By the time we run another VHR race later this year, he will be up to version 11.
One will be a major tire overhaul, I am working with tire files that I made 4 years ago but never used them for one reason or another...after testing them over the weekend I didn't know how good they work in the 2011 mod. Another issue being address is the SS drafting, slowing the cars down a bit will be the main goal. I a new physic's package for the Nationwide and the Trucks, again I going back to physic's that I worked allot on almost 4 years ago now....I just never used them. I care very deeply about this mod and the people that run it, I will always find ways to improve it, now I know there leagues that frustrated at all of the updates...but every game has them. Look at the #%&*$# storm that the developers are going thru with the Nascar 2011 the game...major issues going on there. The physic's that I am working towards will stick with the mod for years to come, giving everyone a chance to nail down sets and not to worry about things being changed once again, I hope that everyone understands my position on the updating process.
Current setup has too much understeer in the corners, but it doesn't seem to be lacking grip. I'm having to turn the wheel a lot more in the center of the corner to get it to stay down on the bottom, it's like...the steering has gone lazy or something. There's plenty of grip left to make the correction, I don't feel like the car is fighting me...just like I don't have enough steering lock, like I haven't turned the wheel enough.
It looks like some camber/caster has been dialed out compared to the setup we ran at the Daytona race in Feb. as it was much easier to drive. This setup doesn't seem to have as much of that 'pull' to the left that makes it easier to get through the corner.

I sent Doug a slight variation on the prior Daytona setup, which seems to work well enough with the latest version of VHR. (Lowered the brake duct and disc size, lowered the rear ride heights, and gave it a 53 tape.) It's got some odd settings for a stock car setup, but I can't argue with the results. The increased front camber seems to help, and I'd guess the wedge setting in particular lets it track through the corners fairly well.
So we ran a number of races tonight, and they were all great fun. I think the setup is just right.
I'm going to re-post this video that I put together for Daytona:
It's a "thought process" video showing what I'm generally thinking when it gets down to the last few laps of the race. Some of the text goes by quick so feel free to pause while watching.
Replays from tonight's races are also available here for review:
This version of the track & mod are definitely throwing some new things at us. There is so much more grip here than what we ran in February, so the cars are running quicker and they're more forgiving of errors.
I think this race is going to be wide open - anyone can win this one if they can position themselves right.
Really, really don't like the way these cars draft. It took me nearly a lap and a half sometimes to get a run on someone. I tried multiple times to bump draft all the way around the track with a couple people yet couldn't stay on the bumper at all as that car would pull away. Dunno, just doesn't feel right.
Great fun with the practice races tonight. Took me awhile to adjust to the new mod's grip and aero. Aero tight on turn-in is pretty pronounced, but it was also there in the 2010 mod. You do have to get much closer to get a good tow, so any errors that get you out of the draft will be more pronounced than before. Henny and I paid the price on that one during one of the races. Never did get caught back up.

Yup, i'm with you 100% on that one. Drafting seems a lot more unforgiving than before. Even a minor hesitation leaves you out in the cold without any chance to catch up and it makes getting a run very difficult. I think there will be a lot of very lonely cars on Sunday. I thought the drafting mechanics worked pretty well in 2010 i don't see why they needed changing

Looks like there will be a lot of "debris on the track" yellows on Sunday.

Damn looks like I missed out on some fun in the practice races, Daylight Savings had me out and about instead of being home at the right time... We are back to standard time here and the change to EDT over there has lead to a 2 hour differenc in times from the races of 4 weeks ago...
I'm going to have to play this one by ear as I start a course on monday morning and my sleep pattern is still that of a nocturnal animal.. So I'll see how things pan out on Sunday after the F1 race and I might make the grid, but there's a 70% chance that I have to miss it.. I'll show for the Saturday practices thouugh...
On the draft issue, the little NASCAR experience I have says that the 2011 drafting is more realistic which will make any mistake glarring and have me running around the back of the packs... I personally found the 2010 version a little on the easy side to get into the draft and pass when the car was straight.... That's just my 2 cents from someone with very little oval experience...

Too late for this weekend, but it looks like v6 will is scheduled for next week, and drafting will be modified. Is it hard to make a clear windshield mod?
1) Too much lateral slamming into each other guys. I know its this version of the mod doing it and no one is intentionally trying to hammer another car, but you're going to have to use extra care tomorrow, or certainly more than used in previous versions.
2) There were at least 5 times drivers rear-ended cars in front of them because they rejoined the field too fast. SLOW DOWN REJOINING THE FIELD! You have plenty of time as slow as the safety car is running to catch-up. If you see you're not going to be able to slow down in time, head for the apron or the grass.
3) As mentioned also on TS, when you get out of the draft it has been very easy in previous versions to get back in line. That's gone. If you're out of the throttle even a tad, the car behind you will almost immediately close the space-up. DO NOT MOVE BACK DOWN TO CLOSE THEM OUT. You're very likely to get whacked in the left rear fender and turned around. Again, this is this version of VHR and not something we dealt with previously.
4) When exiting the pits during the race -- in green or yellow track conditions -- stay inside the yellow double line and rejoin the track on the back straightaway.
5) You can not advance positions by using the double yellow inside lines. If you are pulling in front of someone while inside the yellow lines, complete the pass and advise them to go back around you. DO NOT SLAM ON THE BRAKES.
If the field gets too split-up, the race director has advised there could be debris on the track yellow flags implemented. They will not be used to put anyone at an advantage or disadvantage, but if 3-4 cars are light years ahead of the rest of the field, it will be closed-up. There will not be any debris on the track yellows during the last 20 laps of the race.
I'm probably out as well. I just got home from a long night of work (Jenna Jameson birthday bash = crazy wild crowds...) I'm exhausted, I can barely keep my eyes open. Was really wanting to run dega.
Well it's a shame you got dropped DB, and it's too bad the turnout was only 10 drivers, because it was a pretty good race overall.
I spent the early part of the race just riding along and trying to stay out of trouble. About midway through I bumped Matthias coming off turn four - no different than I had anyone else to that point, even checking up to make sure I was lined up straight - and it still turned him down into Chunx who went into the wall so we all wound up getting some damage from that.
Sometime after halfway we had a yellow for something and on the ensuing restart I got hooked up with Stewart and Papa K, and we just took off. I think we were 9 seconds up on the field when the next yellow came out.
I screwed up on my last pit stop with about 14 to go, I didn't get the revs high enough leaving my pit stall so when I came across the pit exit line I was crawling and struggling to get up to speed. As a result - a quick "end of the line" penalty for driving too slow, which was a shame since I had left pit road in 1st.
On the restart the field was going a bit faster than usual, which caught me off guard. It left me with a gap to the car in front so I leaned on it a bit more, and as I was doing so it went green. So naturally I just nailed it, and shot around the outside nearly getting up to the front.
From that point I'm a bit hazy on what happened, but I think with about 5 or 6 to go I got by Papa K for the lead as he'd left enough room on the back straight to slip by. From there I managed to keep everyone behind me until the yellow flew again.
On the G/W/C restart I was on it a bit too much and had a bit of a gap back to the cars behind. Henny & Birdski were teamed up on the high line so I just stayed up high waiting for them to catch me. They got to my bumper just as we were getting to turn 3, and I was doing my best to stay in front of them in the high line without letting them drop low. They managed to get alongside coming off T4 and were pushing hard down the front straight; by that time Papa K had gotten it wound up and was flying up behind us so I moved to the low line hoping to get a push, and I certainly got it. He pretty much shoved me out in front as we entered turn one, and from there it was just blocking all the way to the line.
In all, it was a tough race and I was glad to pick up the win. Just wish we'd had a few more people taking part.
Congratulations to Lugnut for winning, for Papa_K pulling in 2nd, and henny for 3rd. Thanks to the 7 other drivers that participated. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves in spite of the small turn-out.
Don't think racing can get any better than that race, yet with almost one-third the sign-up field missing, and a meager sign-up number at that, the future seems dismal here for Sprint Cup racing. IOWs, do we hold an event for 10 that show-up or switch format and get a minimum of 16-20 for a touring car or open wheel race? Presuming both take about equal time to setup, what would you do?
Despite finishing with a very damaged car (will have to watch the replay, got tagged a couple times from out of the blue around lap 50), I had a great time. I was happy to see just how much equal footing everyone had in this race. Stewart has definitely 'clicked' when it comes to oval racing and was a front-runner all day. Congrats to Lugnut who got Pole and came from behind for the win. Bummer for Darren, who had a disco when he was doing so well (as usual).
I was enjoying my time at the front of the pack, watching again how Darren lags the field to stay out of trouble. Good strategy, although with the 2011 mod you quickly get left behind if you tail off behind the field - then you have to hope for a caution. I thought running up front was the other safe strategy, until I bumped Birdski just the wrong way out of turn 4 and turned him 'round. That put Karma against me, and sure enough I got massively tagged a few laps after the restart on lap 50. Not enough to cause a caution, but enough to permanently slow my car into the 'uncompetitive' class. After that my car couldn't stay in a drafting pack - heck, non-drafting cars could pass me while I was drafting someone else!
Stewart and I almost had a coup on the field with a short-pit, go-for-broke strategy, but alas I gooned it away with a spin on pit exit due to a really flakey damaged car. That brought out a caution that allowed the field to catch back up and re-leveled the playing field.
I was happy to get a good start on the G/W/C and jump a few places for a top 5 finish. Given just how slow my car was w/ damage, and that it could not stay in the draft pack, the G/W/C was a best-case outcome for me. And that's a sobering result despite having earlier logged the race's fastest lap, in the 47s.
I still do not get why our racing crowd eschews NASCAR, when in-fact it is some of the closest racing we do here. Today was a great exercise in strategy, and door-to-door racing at its finest. I had a blast today, just as I did during the practice races (where we actually had more racers than the actual event). If anyone is unsure about NASCAR sim racing, at least try out the practice races. You'll find out that this is some of the best racing out there.

Thanks for the kind words guys and grats to Lugnut for a well deserved win. Despite the disco I had a blast today. Some really great racing and clever thinking by everyone. These races simply have to continue. Even with only 10 people it's some of the most accessible and intense fun you can have with a race sim.
Regardless if it continues at SimHQ or not, i couldn't imagine my racing without an occasional dose of turning left and without you guys i probably would have never been persuaded to give it a chance.

Well I decided that I would stay back and out of trouble in the initial stages of the race and thats just what I did. As the first green flag pitstop rolled around, I stayed out one lap longer than the majority of the field and was glad to find that Darren saw this and stayed out with me. One lap later and our pitstop was flawless as we emerged out in front of the field.
We managed to maintain our lead by running a nice smooth racing line while the other guys were racing it up trying to get by each other and catch us. I knew as long as they kept going two by two they were never going to catch us.
Sometime after midway or so I found myself in front with Lugnut and Papa K pushing hard and I felt then that I had the race in the bag. We built up an incredible lead till another yellow brought the field back into contention. Even after the game steward shoved me to the end of the longest line I wasnt too worried as I knew I was undamaged and had good pace. An early pitstop with chunx and a fortuitous yellow gave me the lead again for a short time and I thought I was back on course for the win.
Two laps to go and I made a dumb mistake and got just a little to close to Frank in the corner and as he struggled to straighten up his car, we touched again and it sent me hard into the wall.(Sorry Frank) I got a lot of damage from that impact and couldnt even keep it straight and low through the corners but as it happens, that actually helped me a little as I spun and brought out a caution! This meant I was able to pit and fix the damage enough for me to run with the pack. I knew I wasnt going to win from there though but at least I finished with the pack which was ok considering lol.
I really hope we dont lose nascar racing at sim HQ it really is the most fun you can have with your clothes on! If you havent tried it yet then you owe it to yourself to give it a try. There are plenty of people who will only be to glad to show you the ropes and you don't even have to worry about having to create setups for your car as its all fixed. So come on and join the next Nascar race! You know you want to.

Despite my frustration in getting turned twice, I know neither was malicious but just yet another racing incident. There will always be a certain degree of luck when playing around on SS's. I thought Henny and I might just have a run at the end there but Lugnut played it brilliantly in not letting us slip by either side and then PK was back up in his draft for the last dash to the finish pretty much stealing any momentum we might have had. I would've followed you all the way to wall outside Henny had you really pushed it.
Still a whole lotta fun was had. Would hate to see it never happen again here.

You said it Forgie. Tons ‘o fun! I still consider myself quite the newbie sim racer and appreciate all the answers to my really intelligent questions during the race Talladega was the perfect track for me ... a wide open super speedway where I could concentrate more on my line, working in the pack, thinking about and adjusting my pit stop strategy and wondering what you guys were talking about in your NASCAR language. Also, I said it once during the race and I’ll say it again ... thank God for yellow flags!
I’m quite surprised to see the European interest in Sprint Cup racing with the likes of you, Blythe and Koch showing to up to these United States-centric racing formats. Good on ya! It still blows me away when I see people from around the world come together to go bumper to bumper in a racing sim. I think we might’ve gotten just a tad spoiled here when I look at the turnout number.
Has SimHQ ever done Sprint Cup road courses like Watkins or Infineon?
Are there any thoughts to maybe revisit VHR later in the year? I know the calendar is pretty well sorted through September, so it'd be tough to fit one in before then.
I'd like to see us running the Nationwide or the Truck series, maybe at something smaller.
I know late last year there were races at Indy and Charlotte. We've run Daytona and Talladega this year.
Some thoughts on potential venues that would make for some good racing:
Michigan/California - large, sweeping corners. Fairly easy to learn, plenty of room to race, tire management usually being a factor as it's really easy to push them too hard and wear them out. Combined with the occasional fuel mileage run there are often a number of strategies that come into play.
Atlanta/Texas/Charlotte - the three "big" 1.5 mile tracks, all very similar in layout but slightly different in their own ways. A little more advanced than Cali/Mich but they also offer good racing.
Richmond - a taste of close-quarters short track racing in an easier form than you find at Bristol or Martinsville. Still tough racing but the track is a bit easier to learn.
The road courses can be fun, but the problem is that these cars are tough to handle there, even at an easier layout like WG. The gap in talent will be very evident as you really need to be good to get the most out of them. I suspect it'd be like most of the public races I've run - there will be two or three guys who are a second or more quicker than everybody else, a group of midfield drivers, and a group just struggling to make clean laps. Might be fun for 10-15 laps or so, but more than that and you've just got a bunch of guys making laps with no chance to really race.
I would love to see us race the Nationwide cars ("mustangs" and "challengers") at 1.5 mile tracks like Texas/Atlanta/Lowes/Chicago. The Sprint cup cars at Michigan would be fun, too (with a good setup). Guys who think these cars are fun at a road course should try them at Phoenix before getting too excited. They are, as Lugnut attests, real beasts at twisty corner tracks.
You know, the trucks would also be fun at some tracks, perhaps the 1 mile tracks, under the lights. Might be neat to do a 'double-header' event: Trucks for 50 laps, followed by Nationwide for 50 laps.
Or, we could do a "tri-athlon": 30 laps of Trucks, 30 laps of Nationwide, with a finale of 40 laps of Sprint Cup. All fixed setup, all same track, or 3 different tracks (like Richmond or Dover Truck/Texas Nationwide/Michigan Sprint Cup). Force pit stops via fuel and/or tire wear for each race. Winner has the best average finish. Could be a fun race day, and with 30-40 sec laps at each, still only take the same amount of total time investment as our 100 lap Talladega event.
Looks good but I haven't tried it (just downloading now), so I can't comment how it compares but worth remembering just in case VHR goes belly up again.

Just gave it a very quick try. This is a pretty major overhal and there is a ton of content in there. Ovals, road courses, the works. While not as good as VHR, graphics feel basic yet very detailed (I know that doesn't make sense but you'll see what i mean) Things are very sharp (possibly too much so) with some nice effects and hi-res textures but the UI takes some adjustment. Sounds are not amazing but OK. Drafting feel more like VHR2010 and more 'natural' which is a good thing in my book and best of all the AI can find their way onto the track and the safety car behaves much better. You still get warnings but the end of line and ahead of the car you should be following penalties are gone (at least i didn't get any)
Handling is similar but the racing somehow feels smoother and more refined than VHR, I can't quite put my finger on why, it's just less 'raw' and a little more grown up. Kinda like VHR's responsible Uncle. This may or may not be a good thing depending on your point of view. I guess the key will be how it performs in multiplayer.
The whole package doesn't feel quite as complete or polished as VHR but there is a lot to like here and it's good. I'm looking forward to spending time with this over the next few days. As this title matures it could be a serious contender as the premier stock car mod. Definately worth the download. I'd love to give it a try online.

Nice video. Having seen that for the first time, I think that guy driving the #20 needs to be put on probation! I now see why his car turned into such a rolling speed-brake.
After I put it together and before I made the file that I was going to upload, I was watching through it thinking to myself "Chunx sure is in this video a lot and not for the right reasons".
...and to compare, here's the finish of today's race at Talladega
DOH! I guess there should have been a spoiler note there... I haven't watched the race today and I guess I won't need to now. Bummer on the winner as I wanted the other one to win, #24.

Well by virtue of me saying "here's the finish of today's race" I figured...
