Because the EAW files on my laptop were previous versions, I did some updating. In particular I updated SPAW to include the TBF Avenger for online. I intended to reinstall SPAW completely, but just as a precaution I named my original "SPAW" folder as "SPAWx". Vista told me I did not have permission. One or more files inside it had an ownership problem. Vista could not identify the owner, and even though I am an administrator I could not change the ownership to me.
Checking on the 'net found few solutions, but somewhere a user had noted that
a restart of the PC usually fixed the problem. I tried it and it worked. I was able to rename the folder, reinstall SPAW, add the patches and the TBF.
Somehow both Vista and Win 7 can change the ownership of files, without good reason. If the new owner cannot be found, then these files cannot be renamed or deleted even by the administrator.
This error may explain why some users (such as Col. Landers) cannot replace/overwrite/trash files with OAW and the DirSet Picker.
