I have purchased and have neem tinkering with CoD Russian version for quite a few hours now. It isn't easy but I am finally starting to remember what the menus are and have got my controls configured for all the essential controls.

I have the following system specs.

Intel i7-920 clocked at 4.0GHz
Asus P6X58D-E Motherboard
12GB DDR3 1800 MHz RAM
2X HD6970 2GB (Crossfire gives negative scaling so it is disabled for CoD) 11.4 Drivers
Windows 7 Pro X64
Asus DX Soundcard
3X 1920x1080 Monitors in Eyefinity

1st of all ANY attempts to get CoD running at an exceptable framerate in Eyefininty mode was a total failure, even with ultra low settings. With Eyefininty off (1 monitor), and graphics settings on maximum I am able to get acceptable framerates almost erywhere apart from London.

I am getting FPS in the low 30s at full detail setting for graphics, over land with fairly large towns.

The good so far.

The ground detail is stunning, I'm not talking about colours here (this is subjective). I mean the actual towns, forests, rolling hills etc. The ground is bumpmapped (as in RoF) and the feel of low altitdue flight at full detail is excellent. I would rate the ground details as second to none to be honest. RoF comes quite close but not as good as CoD.

We have all seen the cockpit detail shots, they are stunning. As good or better as you are ever likely to see in ANY sim. The props are almost invisible but they are there.

Sounds: Well not so good here, some very nice sounds such as creaking noises if you pull too much G. I would rate the sounds as good enough but nothing special.

FMs: The big one to be honest, how do the planes feel to fly. Amazing is the way I would describe them, spins feel far more dangerous and getting out of one is not going to be as easy as in IL2. Ecpect to lose thousands of feet of altitude if you let a spin get out of control.

DM: No real testing so far as I have only tested the engine DM and it really does seem excellent. When you dive without watching your RPM oil will cover your windshield and you will lose power. Engine temperatures a far more complex than IL2.

Here are various screenshots. The 110 was over the coast with 5 other wingmen along for the ride. FPS did suffer with other AC in the air. The Spitfire shots were from a flight over London, FPS was NOT in any way acceptable, just for show to be honest.

More later.

Thanks for this. I'm still maintaining a small glimmer of hope it will be playable on my machine. (which is nowhere near as good as yours)

I refuse to buy a flight sim that I have no interest in playing, on the off chance that MAYBE someday they'll make the one I really want to play.

Thank you for posting. I´m pretty optimistic, that patches will increase the performance. ROF was once on the edge of being unplayable on my rig. Since a couple of patches, ROF runs great on my PC.

Looking at your system specs 2005AD,I think most of us had better get used to 'low detail' sigh

Do the greens look horrible or is it just my monitor?

Life shouldn't be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body! Better to skid in sideways, cheesburger in one hand, martini in the other, body worn out, screaming "WOO HOO, what a ride!"

I thought if was noticable as well .. at least on the first shot with the 110. Reminds me of "Simpsons radioactive green"

When I first got IL2 had to set colour depth to 16bit with dither and texture compression on to maintain 30 fps. This as on a machine that ran EAW maxed out.
I fully expect to be playing hardware catch-up again like Idid in the early days of IL2.

Thank you for that assessment, 2005AD.

One question: how is terrain level of detail handled in CoD? One of the things that always bothered me with the IL2 engine was the very noticeable "popping up" of buildings in the no-too-far distance.

Ground details from what I've seen so far do indeed look good, but I simply can't get around the impression that the colours are still totally wrong.

There's obviously a lot of potential with this sim, but if the performance issues are not dramatically improved within the next four days the release in western Europe will cause a sh*tstorm of epic proportions.

Gosh, and it only takes the best hardware available to get acceptable frame rates and performance. Nice performance scaling, Maddox Games.

System Specs:

Dell Dimension E521
AMD64x2 5000+
4GB DDR2 RAM
ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB GDDR3
250GB SATA HD

For me the on max the buildings and trees are popping up, and I hate it! Iam still hoping I missed a button in the babylon russian confusion, but it looks so similar to Il2 I somehow doubt it...

Thank you, that was my impression from the various vids, although that's not what I was hoping to hear.

sigh
