Hong Kong
Flew from Hong Kong to Shanghai this evening (2 hrs + flight) on an Airbus A320 and noticed the tiny cushion found on my seat was now called a "flotation device" as indicated on a small label. A sticker glued on the collapsing tray in front of me confirmed I should hold the thing once swimming...
Out of curiosity, I checked under my seat and indeed the life vest pack was gone.

Of course the safety instruction leaflet tucked in the pocket gave all the wrong instructions with "life vest under your seat and blah blah blah".
Anyway, got lucky, the flight went ok.

btw, the airline is called Juneyao. I haven't asked what it means.

Cheers,
Slug

anything goes dude - you're on a chinese domestic flight - chinese airlines are not exactly known for stellar safety records. personally would not fly on a domestic flight with a chinese airline - way too many cut corners from flight crew to equipment.

The flight attendant probably has two, just in case.

No int'l regulations at all? BA could do that?
Indeed it was a domestic flight, I keep forgetting about the Hong Kong handover in 1997...
Anyway, not sure we flew much above water besides take-off and landing.

Cheers,
Slug

I wouldn't know about "right", but I've taken lots of domestic US flights where they announced that your seat cushion will also work as a flotation device in the unlikely event of a water landing. Has two straps you put around your arms.

PETA ordered their removal. The strap clips were chipping the sharks teeth.

I've rarely seen a "life vest" under a seat of any airline. The one I used to work for had a few blow up life vests in the FA's storage, but for the most part the seat itself IS the floatation device and has been for many years. This is right and legit.
