Enjoy! A good read... http://www.scribd.com/doc/51503478/IL2CoD-MANUAL-UK#First sentence: 'Launching the Game. The game requires the Steam service to run. Please make sure Steam is installed and running prior to launching Clifs of Dover.'I can't believe that the Ubisoft employee on their forum was so wrong about this? Well, if you can't trust Ubisoft to make good decisions then who can you trust?

There is no such thing as forced steam while online only but no steam at all(aka no steam software) while offline, jeez. We’ve made the Il-2 series the most successful, the most award-winning, the most famous fight simulation of the 21st century. We hope to continue that tradition after Cliffs of Dover. Funny thing is , its true, wither you choose to like it or not.

There are going to be some very unhappy DVD owners come christmas day.. Also, I agree - a developer should pump their own game up in an intro paragraph, IL2 is/was a great sim.

Finally there's proof it will require steam. And therefore I won't buy it. But then again, until the recent false leads by kleaneasy at Ubi forums, I had been convinced they had ruined the game with steam. She really gave me hope there for a couple of days but the hope is now dashed with a does of reality. Oh well........the old IL2 will now have to do me still. Maybe another UK edition is planned with another manual? Nothing would surprise me now, as they did seem to be implying two separate sku's for steam and non-steam releases. A bit early to give up all hope. PS I personally like Steam, but I respect that if you don't want to use it then you shouldn't have to.

I've got to laugh a bit here - we wait for six years for this sim, today get the full manual (which details armament, aircraft performance profiles, the full mission builder, the new MP) and it's pretty much ignored. This seems to be a place where advocacy is enjoyed more than flight sims. Is anyone out there who wants to discuss WWII era aircraft battles in 1940? Fine - ok then, anyone want to chat more about epilepsy, WOP or who hit who in the schoolyard?

Fearless, you are supplying too many facts, it's much easier to denigrate a product that is untried and unseen

Time for some positive input I think.
The armament options and controls seem very detailed and that is a huge plus for realism. (Hell who haven't taken the idea of a single belt with just tracers to their heart?) Nice to see a peoper manual, even if it is electronic, they are "kind" enough to just make it in B&W so printing out the 118 pages should be a breeze.

Just spent some time reading through the manual. Suffice it to say, there is a whole lot of detail covered. Nice to see some sense of humor displayed throughout the manual, such as: Others like the author of this manual can't hit the side of a barn after a decade of practice and thousands of flying hours.
For the rest of us, there are always bombers. and STURZFLUG
We could have just titled this section Dive, but doesn't Sturzflug sound so much cooler?

Some cool notes about the course autopilot for German bombers: Many German aircraft are equipped with a complex course autopilot that can guide them to target even when visual navigation is impossible...
...The system is only as good as the beams, and they need to be set up by the mission author. Bombing has definitely been given a good deal of attention.

Fortunately my software defeated it (MS Security Essentials).

scribd.com is malware? First time I've heard that, and I'm running MSE as well. The manual appeared to be loading, the page then changed to something else, MSSS popped up and repaired the attack, then I got a page telling me my system had issues and showed a graph indicating the problem and started downloading some kind of crap. When I tried to close it another pop-up came up and asked "Are you sure you want to navigate away from this page? Press OK to continue or Cancel to stay". I used Ctrl-Alt-Del to escape. Checked the SS log, this is the entry: TrojanDownloader:HTML/RenosJ Severe 25/03/2011 09.22 Removed
