I just pre-ordered this on Play.com for £9.99. Due for release on 06 May 2011. Assuming it ever materialises I'll take a gamble for a tenner. I mean it's Wild Bill,it must be good.

That's exactly what I was thinking.I know it's beta but it looked like an arcade game to me? Wild Bill has sold us out.
I'll stick to SB Pro for my armour action thanks.

well i would ask... Is it suppose to be a completely new game following the classic... or is it the classic re-done/updated for todays play... I'm good with both as long as i know what were getting in advance. (I haven't been following it.)
IE: I would prefer someone make a brand new state of the art LONGBOW 2 type simulation... but i would be quite happy also if someone could update the class to work flawlessly and without a bunch of loops on todays systems too.... same with the M1 TP series.
IMO

I obviously misunderstood what this was going to be.I thought it was going to be an up-dated M1 Tank Platoon set in WW2.

Well. Maybe, just maybe, they will switch this the last minute so that leaked beta version copies aren't attractive. But it seems to be a daft marketing strategy to release videos through Bill Stealey's YouTube account that show the beta version in action...?

I had my doubts about this game in another thread- for a product scheduled to be released so soon there seems to be no awareness made of it, either it's vaporware or the production values must be quite poor, simply because they're not too proud of something that looks like it's a homebrew in 2011. It's not as if Wild Bill doesn't have experience in the industry not to know what the concept of marketing is. The other curious matter is that the video states it's also coming to Xbox- PC niche enthusiasts might opt for graphics that look like Panzer Elite, but there's no way even as a budget title that's going to go anywhere on a gamer's platform. After all, this was a previous marquee shot that seemed to indicate what the product might actually look like: http://forum.totalsims.com/viewtopic.php?p=78912&sid=1703dee552a73508ee5f2cab67974d7dI tried looking though the community forum to see what the buzz might be, just a quick glance at recent topics makes no mention of M4 Tank Platoon, just this Armored Assault game. http://forum2.totalsims.com/index.phpWhy is no one even talking about it? Nothing from fans taken back by 1990s graphics and apparently twitch action gameplay, nothing from Wild Bill or anyone telling people that this is not going to be representative of the final game, there's nothing there at all. Maybe it is some stratagem not to show what the graphics will look like in the final stage, but it doesn't make sense that the the game mechanics still has to look like it's in some very early phase where they haven't figured out whether it's going to be a first person shooter or not. That just shows a different type of game entirely even if they didn't want to disclose what the visuals would look like. Why still give the impression that the beta is in a primitive stage if this isn't the way it's going to be? What is the advantage in that?

Thanks Murkz.I thought I was having a hard time identifying it.
Just checking out those links Kontakt. LOL at M4 Tank Platoon 'The definitive simulation of armoured land combat'.
Doesn't give you much hope for the modern day follow-up that's in the pipeline does it?

People churning out dross like that are precisely the reason that nothing develops beyond Steel Beasts Gold, Panzer Elite, never mind Steele beast's PE. Snake if your reading this I apologies for suggesting that you need to even consider enhancing your simulation to attract more customers you would be better off spending some time releasing SBGOLD with a few ww2 bitmaps and charging a tenner for it because people would probably lap it up! This Karking Fuznagel has actually set back the tank simulation communities hopes for a competent ww2 tanks sim by at least decade! I can only hope that some one has enough sense as take that pile of bobbins and unplug the speak and spell it was coded on because that might give it time to learn to spell Colour correctly! Our only hope is that individuals Like Oleg maddox who actually respect their subject material finally take pity on us and give us what we have been begging for! Oleg your our only hope! I would write more but I think I just had a relapse

Is it bad that I'm actually embarrassed FOR this sim? Those screenshots and that video look pathetic. The version of Panzer Elite SE I got off of gog.com looks better and it's 12 years old.
This is the state of WWII armor simulations?
IIRC Oleg hinted that the Cliffs of Dover engine can/will be adapted to an armor sim.
See you guys in a couple of years...

Luckily we still have Steel Fury and T34 vs Tiger for WW2 action.
From now on I will call Wild Bill 'Mild Bill'.

Once you finished the (short) campaigns, you didn't have much else to do. And IIRC, T34 vs Tiger's publisher went belly-up. I guess what I'm looking for in a WWII tank sim is something like a modern successor to Panzer Elite. I haven't found it. Now that I think about it, my new computer (a non-laptop!) can run Steel Beasts Pro PE...

I still have M1 Tank Platoon 2 which I installed a while back on win xp and it ran. Wow I thought as I jumped straight in and then I thought
"Seriously, I don't remember it looking this bad 20 years ago" (#%&*$# is it that long?)
I'd love a modern tank sim, multiplayer and a DC - I loved M1 Tank Platoon.

Jex,this is the problem with loading up games we used to play many years ago.
If you can look past the graphics,a lot of these old games are much better than a lot of modern offerings. I was still playing the original M1 Tank Platoon up until a few months ago.

Are you using a glide wrapper? That 3Dfx mode looks FAR better than software/D3D.

Just looked up the requirements to run this bad boy:
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS PC Pentium 4, 1.8 MHz or higher recommended. 256 MB RAM, 512 recommended for best play. DirectX 10.0 compatible, or DirectX 9.1 compatible (recommended for best play) sound and video cards with Windows 98SE, ME, 2000, and XP drivers. Mouse and keyboard, Joystick is highly recommended. Throttle and Rudder pedals are not necessary, but recommended to enhance the overall experience of the game. Several manufacturers make models of their flight control systems for the PC. Video Card that supports Hardware T&L. Internet connection is necessary to take advantage of the online capabilities of the game.
*Whew* Thank God it supports Windows 98 and ME, I thought I was going to miss out. 256 MB of ram...are you serious?? Amazingly enough it supports DirectX 10...but doesn't support Vista ot Seven? I thought DX 10 wasn't supported by XP. These specs do look 10 years old...just like the game.

It's a bit hard to swallow really isn't it when you have something as good as World of Tanks that is basically free.

It's not the years; it's the mileage. Ha Ha. Indiana Jones quote. As a flight sim (moslty DCS Blackshark) player that dabbles in other types of combat games (WoT, T-72 Balkins on Fire, Silent Hunter 3/4, Being married to a redhead) I took note when someone said that Oleg has plans to do armour combat in IL2 CoD. This gives me hope of a modern (like say late 80's early 90's) air/ground warfare scenario. I think it would be great fun to shoot a tank controlled by a player from a jet or helo. But, you know what? The idea of a human controled tank shooting ME down sounds like it could be a blast to. Just think about that for a second..... how cool would that be? I would love to see a DCS tank or IL2 tank game. This is my first post be kind.

A possible attempt to deflect some of the negative pre-release press on M4 Tank Platoon, by a release name change - now M4 Tank "Brigade" - which is a bizarre name, as the US used RCT and Battalions rather than 'Brigades'....
